Rev. J. T. Gibbs was opposed to issuing an address that would prove ineffective. He denied that there was any necessity for auch an address. The alarm about I Romanism waa all a bugaboo. There are forty millions of Protestants in the United Statea who are alive to their retigwua freedom. Hia speech was ahort but spirited and bristled with telling points. Dr. Mangum again explained that hoi did not favor the resolution as a meas ure against Romanism or as an offen sive measure against any organization, but simply for the protection of the M. E. Bishop Gracbery spoke concerning the Institute, explaining its origin and giving strong reasons why it should be sustained by the church.
