Mr. Banks of Wake, introduced a bill to abolish the office of Coan ty Superintendent ot Education Keferred to the committee on edu cation. Senate bill? 36 and 3D : Bills to amend the State election laws were taken from the calendar and re ferred to the committee on judiciary. The Senate announced as the Senate branch of the special joint committee on railroad commission, Mr. Payne, chairman; Messrs. Pou, Keid and Thomas. The Senate in a body repaired to the hall of the House of Kepre sentives to participate in the JOINT SESSION winch in accordance with law was to meet to canvass the election re turns for State officers. The Speaker of the House an nonnced that tbe votes from all tbe counties of the State had been duly returned, compared and counted, and as the result of that connt de clared that Daniel G. Fowle, hav ing received a majority of the votes cast lor Governor at the election held on the Gth day ol November, A. D., 1888, was the duly elected Governor of North Carolina for the term of four years, beginning on the first day of January, A. D., 1880, that Thomas M. Holt, for Lieutenant Governor; William L. Saunders, for Secretary of State; George W. Sanderlin, for Auditor: Donald V. lsain, for Treasurer; Sidney M. Finger, for Superintendent of Public lnsfcruc tion, and Theodore h. Davidson. tor Attorney General, each having re ccived a majority of tbe votes cast for their various positions at the same election, were declared duly elected to their respective offices for the same term of four years. Tbe President of the Senate and the Speaker of the Honse appended their names to the report of the tellers. Lieutenant Governoi Stedman declared that the purpose for which the joint session was called was accomplished, and declared it ad jonrned, and the members o( the Senate retained to their chamber.
