Tbe cbaiiman then announced that the election of President was in order. Mr. James W. Diddle and Capt. Matt Manly were placed in nomination, and J. J. Wolfenden and Captain K. R Jones were appointed tellers. The bal lots were counted and Capt. Manly was declared elected President of the Craven County Confederate Veteran's Association. On motion of Mr. Biddle the elec tion was declared unanimous. General Ransom retired from the chair, and Capt. Manly assumed it And addressed the association, tendering thanks for the honor conferred and paying a deserved Ulbute to Confeder ate veterans. The election of Vice-Prebidents being next in order a ballot was taken which resulted in the election of J. W. Biddle, W. C. Brewer, Alex. Miller and W. R. Barrington. The chairman then announced the election of a Secretary and Treasurer in order. A ballot was takon, which re suited in the election of W. Q.Brin- son, Esq. The Association next proceeded to elect an Executive Committee, and Charles Duffy, K. R. Jones, W. B Lane S. R. Street and C. A. Battle, were elected said committee. Messrs. James A. Bryan and William B, Lane were chosen as delegates to represent the Craven County Associa tion in the State Veteran Association at any meeting to be held during tho cur rent year. It was then resolved that a committee of one from each township be appointed to recommend two ladies from each township to the Executive Committee, who, when endorsed by a meeting of the Association, would be nominated to the President of the State Association "to be commissioned by the President of the State Association to aid in the glorious work of establishing a Home for the old and broken down veterans of North Carolina, or for any other measure as may be adopted by the State Association." The President stated that he was not prepared to appoint this, committee, but that the committee would be announced at an early day On motion of Mr. James A. Bryan the plan of organization was so amended as to constitute ten members present at any meeting a quorum for tbe transac tion of business.
