Come, all of you, pretty girls, and catch you a sweetheart. Since the rain potatoes are looking fine. We think, with tbe right seasons, Mr. D. S. Barrus will make sixty or sixty-five barrels to the acre. They are the best we have seen this vear. Hope he will get a good price for them. Rev. Mr- McMullen was with ua on last Sunday and preached one of the ablest sermons we have heard in a long time. He is a smart man in the right place. Success to him. Also C. E. Foy of your city was with us; hope they will both come again soon. Piney UroTe Items. Our farmers are getting very uneasy about their cotton crops. Some have planted tbe second time, while others cannot get seed to plant. Our Sunday school is flourishing yet, notwithstanding the warm weather. A Trag.dy in Wilmington Subse quent Events. Wilmington, May 17, 1891. Yester day about noon an omnibus driven by a colored man ran over and killed a twelve year old white boy. the only child of a widow lady. The verdict of tha coroner's jury was that careless driving was the oiuse and the driver was held to await the action of the grand jury. A groundless report was circulated among the colored people that an at tempt would be made to lynch the prisoner and they gathered in hundreds during the night and became so inso lent and riotous that tbey were beyond the control of the police. Near mid night the military were called out and dispersed tbem. Twelve or fifteen of the more turbulent negroes were ar rested and nearly all were found to bo armed with pistols.
