Byrd. The flowers, cards, prayers and visits and all kindnesses meant much to the family and will always be remembered. Mrs. Sanderson Hostess Mrs. Hugh Sanderson was hostess to members of her Canasta Club ? her home near Rose Hill on Wednesday night. Those playing were Mrs. Joe Newkirk, Mrs. Earl Bak er, Mrs. C. L. Quinn, Mrs. Abbie Smith Mrs. William Potter, Mrs. McDonald Beas ley, Mrs. Marion Sasser and the hostess. When scores were tallied it was found that Mrs. C. L. Quinn had won high score prize and Mrs. Earl Baker second high. The hostess served coco nut cream pie, nuts, and cof fee. Alice Hunter Circle Met The Alice Hunter Circle of W. M. S. met Tuesday morning with Mrs. Nellie Batts. Circle chairman, Mrs. Bettle Mae Tucker opened the meeting, gave the devotional and call to prayer. Mrs. J. E. Tucker led die program. She was assisted by Mrs. Paul Bass, Mrs. L. E. Pope, Mrs. Audrey Joyner, Mrs. Hubert Tucker, and Mrs. Fred Johnson. Program topic for the month was "Help Want ed". The program closed with Register; Mrs. Jack Joyner, Miss Victor Parker, Mrs. L. E. Pope, Mrs. Audrey Joyner, Mrs. Corbett L. Quinn, Mrs. Roscoe Potter, Mrs. Cluton Chestnutt, Mrs. William Potter, Mrs. Fennel Smith, Miss Betty Home. Absent when the picture was made were Mrs. Norwood Chestnutt and Mrs. Herbie Halberg. prayer by Mrs. Paul Bass. During the business meet ing the <7. A. presentation and Coronation to be made May 19 were discussed. The chair man, Mrs. Tucker closed the meeting with an inspirational poem. The hostess served cake and coffee to the eleven mem bers present. Magnolia Womans Civic Club The Magnolia Woman's Ci vic Club met Thursday night at the Magnolia Cafe. This was their annual dinner meeting. Mrs. Alma Martins, President, presided over the short busi ness session during which they discussed completion of the kit chen in their club building. The club now owns Its build ing with the first floor being used by the club and the fire department. The upstairs is used by the Scouts. They had raised the money to buy the building through bake sales, rummage, sale of Christmas cards and fish fries. The club was organized to assist the school. Magnolia Community, and other civic af fairs. Eight of the original 16 charter members are still ac tive. The club is now 17 years old having held its first meet log in March. 1988. Having itarted with 16 members the :lub has never had fewer mem )ers than this. Membership la bv Invitation only. Presently they are Involved in two project, renovating the interior of the club building md )ceding and planting shrubbery >eslde the railroad tract. Even though the club has tponsored or contributed to dr ives; such as, Cmcer, Polio, r. B., Red Cross, and others. Christmas decorations for the town. The decorations were made by the clnb members from odds and ends, making every thing but die lights and they have considered making them. This Is a very active club under the present leadership of Mrs. Alma Martlno, Pre sident; Mrs. Alvln Powell, Vic sldent; Mrs. Alvln Powell. Vice-President; Mrs. Clarence Evans.
