Hallsville Presbyterian Church Will Observe Home Coming MDedication Sunday, October 6. 1968 trill be ? very special day at Halls* vlUe Presbyterian Church with Homecoming observed, as well as dedication of the recently completed educational building. HallsvUle Presbyterian Chu rch sprang from a Sunday School started at the B1 ay lock School about a mile up the road from the present church. Fire destroyed many of the original records showing char ter members and other lmpor tent Information. A recorded deed shows 7/8 of an acre of land was given to the church trustees by Jones Smith and wife, Ellen, to be used for con struction of a church. Jones and Ellen Smith were the par enta of Mrs. Bessie Smith Mil ler, presently the oldest mem ber of the church. The present structure, thougt remodeled and updated several times, is the original structure, according to Mrs. Miller. Among the Ministers whc have served the church are: L.E. Wells, Peter Mclntyre; Robert King; G.W. Oldham; J.W, Miller; Frank L. Goodman; Jo seph G. Morrison; J.T. Hayter Stadford Snlvely; Eugene Dav is; and Richard Holhouser. Among the organisations with in the church are now Women of The Church which was or ganised as an Auxiliary in 1930 A young people ana inter mediates league was organizec in 1946. The Men of tne Chu rch were re-organited In 1866. i lot adjoining the church prop i erty was completed In June, I960 with Ret. Richard Hol houser being the first minister i to occupy it. ! A milestone was reached in the church history when in July , 1963, Rev. Clement A. Sydnor - III was Installed as the first < full time pastor. ; An educational building con- 4 t lining 3,200 square feet was i completed early this year. One of the members, Samuel Thomas is now minister to | the First Presbyterian Church ; in Lancaster, S.C. I Rev. Jack Dai. is presently I serving as pastor of the chu | rch which now has a member I ship of 125. [ Officers serving the church are: Clerk of the Session, Horace S Rhodes: Chairman of the Board I of Deacons, LeRoy Kennedy; I President of the Men of the Church, Cecil Miller; President of the Women of the Church, Mrs. Gordon Miller; and Sun | day School Superintendent, Guy I Miller. The pastor and the entire me ? mbership extend to you an in I vitation to Join with them in a 5 day of worship and fellowship I on October 6. Pledges To I School MOUNT OLIVE ? Sarecta Free Will Baptist Church, lo cated near Kenansville, has no tified officials at Mount Olive College of their pledge to the College's development fund in the amount of 33,000. The Rev. S.A. Smith, pastor, and W.A. Jones, clerk, have re vealed in correspondence to the College, located in Mount Olive, its committment of 31,000 per year for the next three years. Steady progress continues to be made in the campaign under taken by Mount Olive College early this year to raise 32,140,000 during a three-year period for use in developing the new campus and expanding the College's educational program. The Free Will Baptist Church, sponsoring body of the College, has undertaken an effort to raise 3600,000 in the campaign. Gifts and pledges to date from Free ?
