JAMES The Varsity Tigers of James Kenan began the 1985 baseball season with two conference wins but suffered losses last week to bring their record to two wins and two losses. After defeating Union and East Duplin, the Tigers played Midway and Hobbton last week and were defeated. The Tigers are coached by Tom McMahon. Midway S, James Kenan 0, March 29 Midway scored late in the game. The teams battled five innings ' before the Midway team scored one run in the sixth. James Kenan was unable to match the funs as Midway batted in four additional men in the last inning to tally a score of five for the game. Pitching for the Tigers was Cam ' Pridgen. He was recorded as the losing pitcher after facing 29 batters, allowing nine hits and five walks. Cam struck out seven and pitched seven innings. Wilson, the winning pitcher from Midway, pitched seven innings, faced 23 and allowed two hits and one walk. Wilson struck out two men. Hobbton 9, James Kenan March 21 After playing Midway at home, the Tigers traveled to Hobbton for a close game which ended in defeat for James Kenan. Hobbton scored one run in the first inning and the Tigers picked up two in the top of the third. With the Tigers leading in the bottom of the third, Hobbton batted in four funs to go ahead of James Kenan 5-2. The Tigers picked up an additional score in the fourth on a run batted in by David Johnson. Hobbton scored again in the fifth and dixth to total nine runs for the game. The Tigers scored again in the seventh when David Hughes led off with a double and later scared along with George Jackson and Cam Pridgen. The game ended at the bottom half of the seventh with Hobbton leading 9 to6. Pitching for James Kenan was Mark Ellenberg and Todd Taylor. Ellenberg was recorded with the loss after pitching five innings and facing 17 batters. He allowed three hits, five runs and six walks, and struck out six. Warren, the winning pitcher for Hobbton, completed seven in nings, faced 29, allowed seven hits, six runs and one walk. He struck out one batter. The Tigers faced North Duplin at James Kenan Monday and play Wallace-Rose Hill today at Legion Stadium. AM ? ? Kornegay. a Mount Olive attor 1 k ney, has remained free on bond and continued practicing law since his 1983 conviction, while his appeals were pending. In a federal court hearing in Raleigh last week, he lost his latest bid to delay serving the sentence. Kornegay was convicted of embezzling $14,500 from the trust account of a client, obtaining $21,000 from a 72-vear-oid widowed client by false pretense and embezzling $600,000 from funds belonging io law partners.
