Underclassmen Pay Tribute
To Seniors; TV Program Planned
Ry LENA NEWSOME
To The Seniors:
We, the underclassmen, would (
like to show our regard to you, the '
senior class. We want you to know j
that we think you are important, j
When we stand for you in the
auditorium, we do it, not just be- 1
cause it is a school ruling, but be J
cause of our great respect for your '
many contributions to MCHS. We I
see you in all of the school or |
ganizations. We know that you are
dependable, always ready to do
even more than your share.
Your help has always been avail
able when we needed it. We have
worked with you in the classroom,
laughed with you in the halls, and
next year we will miss you be- 1
cause you are our dear friends. 1
We admire you, and respect you,!
but most of all we like you.
So Seniors, just remember this j
one thing. When you are gone, you
will leave behind you some mighty ?
wonderful footsteps. We only hope
that we are capable of following |
in them.
The senior girls met the under
classmen in an exciting basketball
game Thursday at fifth period.
The gym was packed with enthu
siastic students cheering their fav
orites on to victory. Both teams
put up a terrific fight, but in the
final seconds of the game the. un
derclassmen defeated the seniors ;
by a score of 48-44.
Proceeds from this game. $65.85,
will go toward the school scholar
ship fund for deserving Seniors.
Tri-Hi-Y sponsored the game.
Thursday afternoon the students
participating in the TV program
over station WITN will meet with
their advisors to practice and time
their acts. The amount of time al
lotted for each department in
school will be determined by the

Tuesday night, March 6, the
FHA Club of Morehcad City held
their annual Mother and Daugh
ter buffet supper
The second year home ec cUis
prepared the food. They served
chieken salad, baked beans, pota
to chips, curled carrots, radish
roses, tea, rolls, and pineapple up
side-down cake.
Women born in other countries
were special guests and each re
ceived a red rose. These ladies
were Mrs. Larry Cannon, born in
Holland, Mrs Odell Adams from
the Bahamas, Mrs. M. J. Loutit of
Scotland, Mrs. O. G. Sterlen from
Norway, and Mrs. Ward Ballou, a j
native of France.
After eating, the FHA girls pre
sented a program, building a home. |
Jessie White and Fay Jones did a
pantomime to "Two Lost Souls."
Sara Eubanks also entertained
with a pantomime. Vocal music
was furnished by a trio, Rudy Eu
banks, Jean Brown and Barbara i
Saratowski.
The walls of MCHS are still
echoing with laughter from the
student council assembly program
Friday. The first part of the show
consisted of a TV program, I Know
Sumpin.' Any resemblance between
this and the popular I've Got a
Secret, was purely coincidental.
Of course when Barrv Willis;
MC, introduced his panelists Mary
Smith, Eddie Smithwick, Renee
Kemp and Llewellyn Phillips as
Jane Meadows, Bill Cullen Faye
Emerson, and Henry Morgan, this
was also an accident.
Richard Powers gave the com
mercial, advertising Old Sole cig
arettes, m?de the new way from
old leathei sioe soles instead of
tobacco.
Only the shapely legs of Jimmy
Parker and Kent Brown could be j
seen beneath the huge cartons of i
Old Sole cigarettes as these two :
clowns danced during the commer
cial.
A1 Conner and Walter Willis,
backs bent from exertion, strug
gled with the props.
Second part of the show was a |
dedication of songi in winch Dar
rell Sanders, Renec Kemp. Walter
Willis. Loia Becton. Eddie Smith
wiek, Novella Reid. and Bunnie
Brinson exposed the "love life" of
various MCHS couples.
Could it happen that since the
famous stance can be 4wlicated,
Douglas West may be tricked into
holding the wrong persons handi
in the shadow of the protecting
lockers?
Climax of the . program cut
! when our chemieal-beaded friend
Bobby Lewis, dressed is the veiid
garb of a chemist, ran down thk
aisle and up on the stage to resoa
a pine branch from Walter Willis
