Speaks to Pupils
Army recruiting sergeant. Bill
Haynes. spoke to the students of
Beaufort High School during a spe
cial assembly arranged by B. K
Tarkington. principal, recently.
The topic of Sergeant Haynes'
talk was "Preparation Through Ed
ucation." stressing the necessity of
students remaining in school and
receiving the highest degree of ed
ducation possible.
, The necessity pi higher-educated
personnel in all walks of life was
stressed. Due to the rapid advance
ment in industry and aiso military
developmeot, more and higher ed
ucated people are needed, he said.
Sergeant Ifaynes told of the op
portunities available to graduating
students in tjie U. S. Army where
they could receive further educa
tion and training experience. This
uas directed to those who are un
able to see the opportunity of go
ing to college and furthering their
education there. Stay in School,
has been the by-word of the Army
for the past few years when they
realized that educated personnel
uere needejd as a nucleus or back
bone for the finest and best train
ed Army {n the world. Sergent
Haynes stated "We have the equip
ment, you have to furnish the
brains, train it to reward you in
the future.1*
Sergeant Haynes is making a
tour of the high schools in this
area at this time to familiarize the
graduating students of the oppor
tunities available in the Army gnd
urging the other students to com
plete their education to the high
est standards possible.

ed home with them to spend sev
eral days.
Capt. Clyde W. Moore arrived
here last Friday to spend the
weekend with his wife and family.
They left for home on Sunday.
A large crowd from here attend
ed tbe 50th anniversary at Tuttle's
Grove Church last Sunday. Tbe
program and dinner were enjoyed
by all.
The revival at our church began
May 3 with Mr. Sam Moore ot
Franklin Memorial Church. More

Mrs. W. J. Dail visited Mrs. W.
P. Servin at the home of Mrs. Etta
Pigott at Gloucester last Friday.
Several from here attended the
revival at Tuttle's Grove last
week.

and Mrs. Neva Dail attended the
sub-district meeting of the WSCS
at Williston last Tuesday.
A large number qf our young
folks attended the MYF sub-dis
trict meeting at Harlowe last Mon
day night.
The prayer group met at the
church last week. We will meet
next time at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Ray West.
