PAGE TWO THE YANCEY RECORD ESTABLISHED JULf, 1936 &4itor —l Mrs. C. R. Hamrick Managing Ed ......... Lee E. Edwards . k Published Every Thursday By v YANCEY PUBLISHING CO. I A Partnership Entered as second-class patter November 11th, 1936, at the"" Post Office, at Burnsville, North Carolina, under the Act of March 3, 1879. er -t- THE WOOD THRUSH The Wood Thrush is somewhat smaller than its kinsman, the Robin. The upper parts are brownish, the crown being brighter than the back. "The breast is white with dark brown r spots. There is a white ring a ' around the eye. It is a migratory bird, going south in October and returning in April. Its hab its are very much like those of the Robin. When feding on the ground it runs rapidly for a short distan ce, then assumes an up right position for a few moments as if to observe and listen, in the same manner as does the Robin. Its diet is mainly insects such as cutworms and moths of various kinds. It is valuable to the farmer and orchardist. As a songster it ranks next to the Hermit “His calm, restful song j rings through the ~ woods like a hymn of praise ris ing pure and dear from a thankful heart. It is a mes sage of hope and good cheer in the morning, a benediction at the close of I day.”—(James Hutchins).
