S. mills in Jan uary, amounting to 1,182,- 867 cords, were 26,533 cords below receipts obtained in January 1945, according to the latest monthly report on pulpwood receipts just issued by the Bureau of Census of the U. S. Depart ment of-Commerce. Everybody come. in the same month of the preceding year. January 1946 imports were given by the Census Bureau as 153,- 019 cords. Domestic receipts in the Appalachian region in Jan uary of this year were plac ed at 77,897 cords in the Commerce report. These re ceipts bettered those recei ved in the previous Janu ary by 4,897 cords. Consumption of pulpwood by Appalachian mills in January 1946, however, out sti ipped domestic receipts by 38,576 cords. The De partment of Commerce re port gives mill consump tion in this area for the month at 116,473 cords. Pulpwood imports were not regionalized in this month’s Commerce report.
