Monday, March 25 ’ - The Men’s Club will hold the regular meeting. Tuesday, March 26 The meeting of the Am erican Legion Post will not be held. The North Carolina Sym phony Orchestra will give a concert at the school au ditorium at 8 o’clock. Friday, March 29 The Garden Club will meet with Mrs. Troy Ray at 7:30. Mrs. J. E. Banks and daughter, Betty Jo, were here from Morganton for the week end. Mr. Banks has been ill of pneumonia but is improving. ** * * Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Rob ertson, Jr., and family of Rutherfordton spent the past week end here with; Dr. and Mrs. W. B. Robert son. Arthur Burdette Rob ertson is now taking boot; training at the Great Lakes naval training station. ** • • Mrs. Ophie Lee Ogle has been visiting Mrs. Lawren ce Winters and daughter, Mary Beth, and Mr. and Mrs. Alfred McMahan of Elizabethton, Tenn. WOMANS CLUB The Woman’s Club met March 14th at the home of Mrs. C. P. Randolph, with Mrs. Herschel. Holcombe and Mrs. L. G. Deyton as associate hostesses. Mrs. Troy Ray was pro gram leader and introduc ed T. M. Swann, who spoke in a most interesting man ner of economic and social conditions in the countries of England, France, Bel gium, Holland and Germ any, in each of which he had been stationed at some period during the war. A committee was appoin ted by the president to as sist in providing entertain ment for the members of the North Carolina Sym phony Orchestra who will appear here March 26th. The following officers were elected to serve dur ing the next club year, be ginning in September: Pre sident, Mrs. Clarence Bel garde; Vice-President, Mrs.! G. L. FOOD COLLECTION I A food collection drive; , will be held in the county during the next week end.; ; The food must be in tin cans and will be sent to the peo-! ’ pie now r starving in Europe. It will be sent to Asheville| on Tuesday. i Clothing Donations In the recent clothing drive, a total of 1643 poun ds of clothing was donated in thp county, Mrs. V. J. Goodman, chairman, has re ported. Mrs. Goodman said there ! were approximately 2500 different articles, and 30 i Good Will letters were in cluded. Club Meeting The Hardscrabble Home | Demonstration Club met March 15th with Mrs. Wil son Edwards. Miss Rush discussed vegetable insect control guide and disease control. Afterwards a social hour was held and refresh ments were served. BOLENS CREEK Its good to see the child ren out again after so many having measles. Mrs. Roy Ray has return ed home from "an Asheville hospital but the baby had to remain for a few days. A group of young folks from Bolens Creek attend ed the Youth Rally at Browns Creek Saturday night. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Banner and family visited Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Banks in Pensacola Sunday. Phillip, the small son of Mr. and Mrs. Dillard Wil son, is ill. Champ McMahan is spen ding a 30 day furlough with his sister, Mrs. J.ohn Ray, Mr. and Mrs. Shelby Ray and small son, Morris*- vis ited Mr. and Mrs. Richard Ray at Cane River over the week end.
