' • ..0.^0.0. 41* • . , ‘ —• % MICAVILLE GIRLS AND MARS HILL BOYS WIN TRI-COUNTY TOUR NAMENT Mars Hill—The Micaville girls defeated Mars Hill sextet 19-14 in the final game of the Tri-County Tournament after the Mars Hill team defeated Edney ville in the semi-finals in a third extra period play on Friday night. The Mars Hill boys held their title by defeating Micaville 52-11, Burnsville 40-18 and Bee Log 37-18. ' i Chandler of White Rock was presented the sports menship medal in the girls! divisional and Jamerson of Mars Hill in the boys divi sion. Fender of Bee Log and Rice of White Rock were ' recognized as masters of . the most spectacular shot. 1 Howell of Micaville and Justice of Mars Hill led in the scoring in the girls tour ney, and Bennett of Mars Hill and Hensley of Bee Log led for the boys.- The Mars Hill girls and boys led the tourney scor ing. The girls scoring 72 points and the boys 129. They were followed by Mi caville girls with 69 and oee Log boys with 72. ■ ' The girls all tourney play ’ ers were: Justice of Mars Hill, Freeman of Edney ville, and Howell of Mica ville as forwards—Banks of Burnsville, Hall of Micaville and Ballard of Mars Hill as guards. The second team is comprised of Rice of White Rock, Ebbs of Spring Creek Tilley of Clearmont, Hun singer of Edneyville, Led ford of Mars Hill and Shel ton of White Rock. FOREST FIRES : During February 1947 District One, of the North! Carolina Forest Service j had 24 forest fires which! burned a total of 212.5 acres of privately owned forest land in* the'6 counties un-: der forest fire control in’ this district. Os these 24 fires, in Feb-j ruary, the responsible par-1 ty was established bn 12 ofj them, and reprimanded.- During February, 2 persons were prosecuted; 1 for bur ning without a permit and 1 for burning without a per mit and allowing fire to escape. During the remaining months of the spring fire season, the public is urged to be careful with fire.
