This year boys and girls from every county in the State will be present. L. R. Harrill, present State 4-H leader, has head ed 4-H work for the full quarter of a century, and this year’s program will be dedicated to him. He was responsible for combining the original corn clubs for boys and tomato clubs for girls into a single program. He also initiated the annual Club Week. Governor Scott, ope of the speakers for this year’s program, is a former 4-II boy. Dr. J. H. Hilton, dean of agriculture at State Col lege, who also will speak, was once a 4-H member in in Cabarrus County. Highlight of the week will be the Silver Anniver sary party on Tuesday ev ening, July 24, followed by the tapping of outstanding club boys sand girls for membership in the State Honor Club. A health pageant will be given and the king and queen of health will be crowned on Wednesday ev ening. The outstanding fea ture Thursday night will be the annual dress revue presenting the work of 4-H girls. The special week will close with the traditional candle-lighting c e remony on Friday night. The boys and girls will be guests of Governor and Mrs. Scott at the Mansion on Wednesday. This includes only the actual damage to stan ding trees. The responsible parties were determined on 125 of the 175 fires or 72 per cent of the total number. Brush and debris burners contin ued to be the largest cause of forest fires. 75 or 43 per cent of the total number of fires were from this cause, mits during the period. In Yancey County 13 for est fiYes burned during this period and 14 acres were burned.
