If they are not taken up and divided they, will send up several stalks which will giVe you spine nice early blooms, but the fall flowers will usually be . inferior, in dividing dahlia clumps be sure that each division .has at least one root and one good „ eye or sprout. There is no advantage in hav ing more than that. If* you took up the dahlia clumps last fall and put them in storage you will find that they are beginning to show well-developed eyes or sprouts and can be easily divid ed now. After dividing, keep (them covered with slightly dampened peat moss or saw dust so that they will not dry out until it is time to plant. In the central portion of the state a good planting date is May 1 to 15; in eastern areas a few days later would be best and in TOOL HOLDER . . . Dropping tools from the top of a ladder where they are momentarily placed is an inconvenience that can be prevented by boring boles large enough to receive the bladea or handles of the tools in the top tread of the ladder. A—Technically it is bi-partisan, the legal entity as set up by Con gress including six Democrats and six Republicans with Mr. Hoover S as Chairman. However the resolution also calls for a vice chair man who has never been elected, and Solomon Hollister, a Re publican, acts as executive director. The first Hoover Commission named by President Truman operated under Mr. Hoover as chair man and Mr. Dean Acheson, a Democrat, as vice-chairman. But. there is a private organization, privately financed, known as the Citlsens Committee for the Hoover Report, which is not considered bipartisan, and which issues releases concerning the work of the Hoover Commission which are far from bi-partisan. Q —Can you give me some information about bow many Credit Unions there are? A—According to latest statistics there are about 18,000 credit unions in this country and Canada with about 8 million members with assets of more than |2*4 billion dollars. In 1954 they accounted for approximately 11% of consumer borrowing. Essentially a cred it union is an organization of people, usually people employed together, who agree to save their money together and to make loans to each other at low interest rates. f Q— Has there been s bill introduced In the 84th congress .to regulate bank holding companies? ‘ , Ai-Ye*. When the cave bride was* carried or dragged to her new home, she had a pretty good idea who was going to be the boss. Her caveman had a big club, but he seldom had to use it. Everything was under control and they lived happily ever after. Certain changes have taken place since then. Men have be come civilized. He carries her across the threshold, and as soon as he gets her inside, she puts her foot down. That’s when the trouble starts. Right away, she wants to give orders. She lets him know she expects to be the boss. lT- THURSDAY APRIL 7, 1955 The cave woman was afraid of her man, but the modern wife Isn’t a bit scared of her husband. She knows he won’t even so much as flip her with a wet towel. Spanking Is A Lost Art Men don’t even spank their wives anymore. Husbands today * are just big, soft, easy-going, kind - hearted, good - natured, chivalrous dopes. Are today’s women satisfied? No. Do they appreciate their husbands ? No. Instead, they insist upon being treated with great consideration, and then . . . dream about being carried off by a caveman. He Let Her Have It Most husbands are perfect gentlemen, but at times every man wonders if the cavemen didn’t have the best system after all. There are times when a man can stand so much and no more, like the man who” was brought into court for hitting his wife. “Why did you do it?" asked the judge. "Well, your honor, it was Ilka this,” replied the husband. "The door was open, she happened to bend oyer, the broom happened to be handy and I just let her have It.” -••• • • , Married men don’t live longer than single men, if just seeme longer, *
