THE YANCEY RECORD Happy Khmer New Year. Letterman, Myers Vows....' Exchanged Miss Mary Ann Letterman of Greensboro and George Her bert Myers of Atlanta, Ga., were married on June 19th at 4:00 p. m., In the Green Mountain Presbyterian Chur ch. The Rev. Bert Styles of Neadale officiated at the double ring ceremony. Hie bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clesjen Letterman of Green Mountain. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Webb Myers of Can dor, N. C. Mr. Letterman gave his daughter in marriage. She wore a sheath of candlelight satin emb oidered in sequins and pearls, with a floor leng th train. Her veil was at tached to a cluster of orange blossoms and pearls. She car ried a whfte orchid on a pray er book, with streamers of rfteptvanotis. Mrs. Royce Carroway of Newport News, Va., cousin of the b r de, was matron of hon or, '.ad Mrs. Lester Davis of ♦Fayetteville, Miss Sadie Myers and Miss Rebecca Myers, sis ters of the bridegroom, were bridesmaids. They wore dres ses of turquoise with match ing bandeaux and carried pcnk roses. Katy Peterson, cousin of the bride, was flow jer girl John Walton Myers, broth - 1 er of the bridegroom, was best man. Ushers were Jack Lee of Atlanta, Johnny Harris of Candor, and Richard Beam of Bhetyy. The bride’s mother wore a blue silk sheath with blue accessories. The bridegroom's mother wore a deep pink shantung dresp with white accessories. A program of wedding mus ic was rendered by John Bai ley of Morganton, who sang “Whither Thou Goest”, and “The Lord’s Prayer". Sue Let terman of Boone accompan ied him on the organ. The bride’s traveling cos tume was a rose coored silk dress with full length sleeve less coat. The bride h&i a BS Degree from Appalachian State Tea chers’ College. She will be with DeKalb County Schools next year. The groom also holds a BS from Appalachian. He Is an eudtior with Fulton Indus tries of Atlanta. The young couple will reside ’ at 1886 North Aken Drive, At’anta, Geo gla. A cake Cutting was held af ter rehearsal on Friday night in the church social hall. Rev. Robert Melvin of Mars Hill College will fill the pulpit at the First Baptist Church here while Rev. Mc- Donald is on vacation. Blankenship And Young Vows Made Miss Jane Blankenship and Arliss Joe Young were united in marriage on June 19 in Groce Methodist Church by the Rev. Raymus Hilliard of Burnsville. She is the daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse B. Blankenship of Sdadale and he is the son of Mr. end Mrs. Paul B. Young of Burnsville. Mrs. Young is a graduate of Western Carolina College and teaches at Lee H. Ed wards High School. Mr. Young, a graduate of East Tennessee State University, Is field auditor with the N. C. Department of Revenue. They will live at 141 Norwood Ave. Mr. Blankenship gave his daughter in marriage. She wore a dress of lace and peau de sole with veil attached to a pearl coronet. Miss Norma «Blankenship, sister of the bride, was maid of honor and * Miss Faye Crowe and Miss Melba Mur phy of Spindale and Mrs. Notman Hensley of Kingsport, Tenn., were bridesmaids. They wore pink dresses with matching rosette headdresses and carried nosegays. Danna Wortman anqi Marty Cundiff were child attendants. Can dles were lit by Shelton Hen son QI. Norman Hensley was best man and ushers were John 0. Tilson and John Anderson of Mars Hill, Ray Bebeler of Rutherfordton and Donald Coffin. A reception in the church social hall followed the cere mony with Mrs. W. B. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Phoenix of Shelby visited his mother, Mi s. T. H. Phoenix last week. Lee is principal of schools In Cleveland County. Miss Harriet Ellen Phoenix of Waynesville, N. C. was the guest of Miss Hattie Phoenix last week-end. Mrs. Edd Marshbanks of Michigan is the house guest of Miss Ida Phoenix of Bck ersvllle. Mrs. Minnie Bell Edwards has returned home after spending a week with her son, Ellis Edwards and Mrs. Edwards of Charlotte. .Mr. and M r s. James .D. Edwards and children of Col umbus Station, Ohio are spending this week with Mrs. Minnie Bell Edwards. Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Edwards of Char lotte and M“. and Mrs. Guy Edwards of Spmce Pine a’so visited Mrs. Edwards last week-end. Major and Mrs. N. B. Lau phrun of Passer Air Force Base, La. visited Mr. and Mrs. Ike Laughrun and Mr. and M'S. Kenneth Laughrun here last week. Ma*or Laughrun has been transferred to the Air University at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama. Mrs. W. L. Bennett and Mrs. Hattie Peterson returned to their nomes here Sunday after a week’s visit with their brother, Back Byrd, and Mrs. Byrd in Marion. Mrs, E. L. Briggs went to Marlon for Mrs Bennett and Mrs. Peter son and MrS. L- E- Briggs ac companied her. ' Miss Lilian Presnell and Mrs. Haskel Presnell of Tho masville, Ga. visited relatives he-e last week. Miss Presnell returned to Thomasville Mon day and Mrs. Presnell will visit with her daughter, Mrs. Tommy Gibbs, and family at Newdale this week and return to Thomasville next week. Mr. and Mrs. Lucius Smith are vacationing at Carolina Beach. They are accompanied by Mrs. Smith’s niece, Patte Holcombe. The Misses Jessamine and Co Inna Gant of Burlington, N. C., have returned to Bur nsville to spend the summer lh their cottage here. Miss Betty Cooper has re turned home from the Yan cey Hospital after her stay there for mononeuclosis. Miss Ramona Penland Is at home again after her brief stay in the Yancey HospltaL Mr. and M"S. John W. Chaf fin of Cleveland, Tenn. were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. George W. Roberts last week end. Forester Chaffin repre sented the Tennessee Super visors Office in the Tennessee Rhododendron Festival held on Roan Mountain last week end. Col. and Mrs. Sam J. Hus kins, Jr. and sons, Gary and Kirk, are here from Macon, Ga. to spend two weeks vaca tion with Col. Husklns’ moth er and sister, M”s. Sam J. Husklns and Peggy. They will also visit with Mrs. Maddox’s sis ter and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Barnett, and a brother and sister-in law, Mr. and Mrs. Smith Hughes. Mrs. Stewart Jones and children of Pennsylvania are here at this writing visiting with her mother, Mrs. Dela Hopson. They will also visit with her brother and sister in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Hopson, also of Byrd Creek. Jack Norman of Newland was here last week buying boxwoods. Mr. Norman was accompar’ed by another man. This writer June 13th heard several partridges In the vi cinity of Union Hill. These were the first I had heard since June 20, 1964, when I heard one singing In the town of Burnsville. Wilbur Barnett was a t Spruce Pine Saturday, June 12th, where he was on busi ness. Mr. Barnett was accom panied by this reporter. We also were In the town of Bur nsville twice the same day! Mrs. Barbara B. Stiles of Philadelphia, Pa., was here at Dog Flat Hollow one day re cently. Mrs. St lies says she 13 a * eader of this column. Mrs. Stiles was accompanied here by her son. The weather situation here In this area is quite like aut umn as to the temperature here the other day. A reading of 37 ’ (thirty-seven) degrees was recorded here at the weather station last Saturday mo'Hing, June 19th. It was the coldest ever recorded for the tfme of the year. Approxi mately seven years ago, in the month of June, the tem perature dropped considerably Otherwise, we were not keep ing a record of the tempera tures at that time. Luther Hughes of the upper section of Pigeon Roost was here at Byrd Creek two days last week. On one of Mr. Hughes’ trips he had been in Rock Creek, there where he had picked several gallons of cherries. The cherry Industry here In this area this year was really great Evidently, after the heavy rains last week, the cherries most of all spoiled on the trees, apd was merit enough for use. Willie Barnett of Byrd Creek was In again In the /Banner Ek Hospital at this writing. Mr. Barnett was tak en to the hospital one day last week after his condition recently grew worse.
