SEX... A IADLY CONFUSED IDEA BY ♦•'WHCR Sol _ . UltttUlu Peih' T>3 me most charitable thing that can be said about American society’s attitude toward sex is that it is badly confused. Perhaps a more ac tivate statement would be to say that it is sick. A TIME magazine, feature article some time ago pointed out just how sick ou? society is in its sexual morality, and it also gave a fairly accurate diagnosis of the causes of this sickness —over-exposure, and over-indulgence. For several decades now we have been bombarded by an intensive “down with Purit anism ’ campaign which has made any criticism of trends In sexual morality seem al most un-American. Anyone who dared to speak out ag ainst increasing permissive ness in the national pattern of sexual mo ality was im mediately and thoroughly dis missed as 'Puritanical.” Now no one will deny that Puritanism had to go. It was unhealthy, inhuman, and eve n immoral In its own right, denying as it did one of God’s greatest gifts to man. But if Puritanism was unhealthy, our present day substitute is less so. For whether society denies the existence of a basic human GROUND BEEF . - KRAFT MAYONNAISE v CHEF HOT DOG CHIU 3lb *1 59* 19 ( cm BANNER BREAKFAST SAUSAGE WHITFIELD FRESH lA* i WHITE HOUSE I kosher dius 1U ««, 19c I T.XII. au«CH 2*l ' AT JJ ■ ■Ms j MORTONS SALT | QUART 'PLAIN Os IODIZED j NORTH STATE KRAFT MACARONI DINNER i PO * K SAUSAGE 2 35. 2ox s 19c 99c V B& B SUPER MARKET BURNSVILLE, N. For some reason or other Americans seem convinced that sex is an evil pleasure which they are determined to enjoy in spite of God. Why it does not occur to them that God must know about sex if He created it, and that He must have thought it all right if He created it, is a? mystery which still awaits a solution. THE SIMPLE FACT IS THAT THERE IS NOTHING IMMORAL ABOUT SEX OR THE PLEASURE CONNECT ED WITH IT, ANY MORE THAN THERE IS ANYTHING IMMORAL ABOUT A BRAND NEW AUTOMOBILE AND THE ENJOYMENT THAT COMES FROM DRIVING IT. BUT JUST AS WE DO WRONG IF WE STEAL THE AUTOMOBILE IN ORDER TO ENJOY ITS USE, SO WE SIN IF WE USE SEX APART FROM ITS RIGHTFUL PLACE IN MARRIAGE. NOR DOES THE SINFULNESS OF SEX OUTSIDE MARRIAGE DEPEND ON WHETHER OR NOT ANYONE ELSE IS HURT BY OUR ACTION. SIN IS AN OFFENSE AGAINST GOD, AND THE CHIEF MALICE OF ANY SIN LIES IN THIS FAILURE TO LOVE HIM WHO LOVES ua GIRL SCOUTS ATTEND DAY CAMP Thirty six Girl Scouts from Yancey County are registered for the Girl Scout Day camp to be held June 22 to 26 in the Pisgah Forest just off the Parkway near Burnsville.
