SPRUCE PINE WHIPS EAST YANCEY East Yancey Panthers end ed thei" no-loss record on the East Yancey field Friday night, when the Blue Devils of Spruce Pine thrashed the local boys in a game that will be remembered for a long time to come. The perfect re cord of the Panthers, with P ur wins out of four games, ended with a score of 50-0 in favor|*f the hard hitting Blue Devils. It may be well said that the local team was “off” Friday night. Howeve-, that is little consolation to fans when a game turns out to be more like a track meet, with only r~e school entering. The local boys did not threaten to score, while the visitors ripped open East Yancey's defense to score twice in the first qrarter, twice in the second, once in the third, and three in the final period. The visiting Devils gained a total 514 yards, while the local boys made 109. Spruce Pine completed 9 of 13 pass es, while East Yancey com pleted four of 16 attempts. The Blue Devils of Spruce Pine have won all games played this season, and East Yancev has won all except the Friday nisht loss. The fury of the Blue Devils may have been unleashed be cause of the memo-y of an almost similar beating by the Panthers a few seasons ago. , MARS HILL DEFEATS REBELS 9-0 The Cane River Rebels gave up a heart-b eaking game to the Mars Hill High School eleven at Cane River last Thursday night. The game ended with a score of 9-0. The nip tuck game was p’avert in an almost steady rain. On the wet field neither team was able to gain much headwav on the ground, and a wet, si c\ ball hampered an ah Ttt'mk bv either. Finally, with only minutes to n'ay, the Mars Hill visitors made a long run, was hit hard bv a defending Rebel which caused a fumble. Cane River recovered the *<ol on the one foot line. With little running room and a booming defensive break through the Rebel ball Car rie' was caught behind the goal Ihe, g viog the visiting team two points. Following the safety, the Rebels place kicked from the 20-yard line A fast Mars Hill back ran the ball back for a* touchdown. The extra point was good, ending the game with a 9-0 score. 4 -jyL 2 We’ve seen it. you’ve seen a picture of it. Yesterday naming Mrs. M B. THE YANCEY RECORD 4Hr Jsk * y g , y * jlßkyb THIS IS THE GOSPEL Text: (Math. 24-3) And as he sat upon the Mount of Olives the disciples asked him privately saying; “What shall be the sign of thy com- * ing, and of the end of the wo id?” The Second coming of Jesus Chrirt for his church is the Hope, and Consolation of all Christians. This present world has nothing to offer the true child of God but sorrow and disappointment. But the sec ond coming of Jesus for his own means immortality, a change from this mortal to immortality, a new body. Note in (I John 3-1-2) “Behold what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the Sons of God. Therefore the world knoweth us not be cause It knew him not. Now are we the Sons of God and it doth not yet appear what we shall be, but we know that when he shall appear wc shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. Read also (I Cor. 15-51). This hope is the Christians anchor in this stormy world. He came the first time to-make salvation possible for all believers thro ugh his atoning work on the cross and his resurrection from the dead. But on the day of his ascension to heaven he left his follower the promise he was coming back again. (John 14, 2-s>). “In my Fath louse are many mansions r ere not so I would have - you. Igo to p’ are a place for you and .go and prepare a. place for you I will come again and receive you that where I am there ye may be also" Also in (Acts 1-10- 11) “And while they looked steadfastly towa~d heaven as he went up, behold two men stood by them in white ap parel, this same Jesus Which 1 is taken up from you into heaven shall so come in like manner. We do not know the day or hour of his coming, but the Bible gives us many signs that we can know when it is near. In (Math. 24-7) he said, ’’nation shall rise against ? Both had been startled by the crashing window pane. And, upon investigating, they found a dead Ringneck phea- nation, Kingdom against Kingdom. And there shall be famines and pestilences, and earthquakes in divers places” (or everywhere. Ve~se 8, stat es, “these are the beginning of sorrows.” So Scriptuajly speaking, we are now liviiig in the days of sorrows. (Lk. 21-25) “And there shall be signs in the Sun, and signs in the Moon, and the Stars. And upon the Earth distress of Nations with perplexity. The Sea and the’ Waves roaring, and Mens hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are com ing on the Earth. For the powers of Heaven shall be shaken.” Today there is more unrest between the Nations of this Earth from fear of a Nuclear War than at any time before. ThLs fear is bringing heart failure to many. I personally predict, these conditions a*e going to get worse, in the next year or two. Then in (Luke 17-26-27- 28) Jesus said, “as it were in the days of Noah, and also in the days of Lot, so shall it be also in the day of the com ing of the Son of Man; In those days sin, wickedness, and violence filled the earth, before the flood. In (2 Tim, 3-1) The AJostle Paul writes, in the last days perilious times shall come." (danger ous times). Friends I want 3 ou to know they are upon us. In verse fourteen he states, "Wicked men and Seducens, shall wax worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived.” There are many deceivers out today, and some of them are preachers. Now let us notice some spiritual conditions In the church just before his coming: In (Math. 24-12) Jesus said, “because iniquity shall abound, (sin) the love cf many shall wax cold.” We can say Amen, to this now. In (2nd Thess. 2-1-2-3) The Apostle writes, “now we be seech you brethren by the ccmlng of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, that ye be not soon shaken in mind or be troubled, neither by Spirit, nor by word, no.' by letter. As that the day of Christ is at hand. Fu. that day shall not come, except there come a falling a vay first, and that Man of Sin be revealed. “I de clare unto you there is more backsliding, in the church to day, people who are spirit ual asleep, than I have ever seen in the twenty years I have been in the Church. But God’s word makes it clear one can not serve two mas ters. (God and the Devil) for he will love theo ne and hate the other, or else he will hold to the one and despise the' other; (Math. 6-24). When Jesus comes it will be for the pure in heart. The church he is coming for will be holy, sant in their living room with a broken neck. Hunting season is not far away, and Higgins is a retired THURSDAY, OCT. 7, 1965 sinless, and pure. Note to* (Eph 5-26-26)” as Christ ahX so loved the Church and gave sanctify, and cleanse it with the washing of water, and by the word. And that He might present to Himself, a glorious Church not having spot or w. inkle, or any such thing. But that it should be holy, and without blemish (Sin). “And this cleansing must take place here, before his coming and not after. May I ask you friend, are you ready? Be cause of the lateness of the hour, its time to take a spirit ual inventory of ones life. Ac cording to the signs in his word, brought out in this message, his coming is very nea~. What will a few more - dollars in the bank, worldly gain, mean just five minutes after he comes. It will then be too [ate to make prepara tion to meet Him If you are a backslider, make you an altar somewhere and pray through again to salvation, and fellowship with God. If you are a poor lost sinne-, he said ‘ Whosoever shall call up on the name of the Lord, shall be saved (Acts 2-21).” If you have a prayer request ca l 682-2437. Rev. O. E.
