Miss JanTerson Named To Who’s Who ™ ■ ' aH ” A'V 9F ' . .: ill: : ' : ; Cullowhee Miss Celia Rosemary Jamerson of Bald Creek has been named to Who’s Who Among Students In American Universities and Colleges at Western Carolina College. A senior majoring in Eng lish and Trench, Miss Jam erson is a member of the French Club, English Semi nar, Alpha Phi Sigma Nat ional Honor Fraternity, Vice President of the German Club and a freshman coun selor in Moore Dormitory. She is the daughter of Mrs. Marjorie Jamerson of Bald Creek and Is a 1963 graduate of Cane River High School. THURSDAY, NOV. *5, IMS OBITUARIES KURL FENDER Kurl Fender, 27, son of Mr. and Mrs. Reagen Fender of Route 4, „ Burnsville, died Monday, Nov. 22, in Elgin, Illinois, following an injury on a construction job. Mr. Fender Is survived by his parents, his wife, Mrs. Janice Allen Fender, and one child, as well as six sisters and five brothers. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:00 p. m. in the Bald Mountain Free Will Baptist Church, with Rev. Theron Wheeler officiating. Burial will follow In the family cemetery. The body will be returned to Burnsville on TTiuraday, and will be taken to the home of his father, where it will remain until time for the funeral. 8. NASA EDGE 8. Nass Edge, 74, retired farmer'and mica miner of Rt. 2, died in a Spruce Pine hospital Friday after a brief illness. He was a lifelong resident, of Yancey County. Surv.vlng are two sisters, Mrs. Julia and Mrs. Linla Young of Rt. 2, and four brothers, Will, Mills, and Ed of Burnsville, and Joe Edge of Pennsylvania. Services were held at 2:30 p. m. at Blue Rock Baptist Church. The Rev. Lloyd Glenn and the Rev. Arnold Robinson officiated and burial was in the church cemetery. Pall bearers were Gilbert and Billy Buchanan, Ransom and Sherrill McKinney, CK-orge and Fred Edge George Young and Milt Huskins. T. E. BUCKNER MARS HILL, Services for Theodore E. Buckner, 90, of Rt. 2, who died Thursday were held at 2:30 p. m. Sun day at Middle Fork Baptist Church. The Rev. Ebde Ray and the Rev. W. L Lynch offi ciated and burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbear ers were Shelby Ray, l 4 >y Buckner, Levi Hunter, Ralyh Roberts Ralph Angel, and Walter Briggs. Mr. Buckner was a lifelong resident of Madison County and was a retired carpenter and farmer. He had been a member of Middle Fork Bap tist Church for 60 years. He is survived by the wid ow, Mrs Bessie Ray Buckner; three daughters, Mrs. Iva Banks and Mrs. Ruth John son of Inman, S. C, and Mrs. Mabel Rice of Wellington, Colo; three sons, Lloyd and A. R of Weaverville and Woodrow Buckner of Detroit; two sisters, Mrs Joe Fergu son of Mars Hill and Mrs. Willie Briggs of Weaverville! 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. THE YANCEY RECORD U. R. (RICE) PATE Funeral services for U. R. (Rice) Pate, 90 years of age, of the Pigeon Roost section, who died Sunday afternoon, November 14, in a Burnsv lle hospital, after a long Uness, were held at 2:00 p. m. Tues day, in Union Church at Huntdale, N. C. The Rev. Richmond Barnett and the Rev. Charlie Miller off dated Burial was in the Peterson Cemetery on jacks Creek, with Masonic graveside rites. Mr. Pate was a retired mall carrier having retired about fifteen years ago after 90 years cf service on Route I from the Relief post office. He was the son of the late Perry and Annie Street Pate, a pioneer couple of Pigeon Roost sect'on. He was a mem ber of the Huntdale Free Will Baptist Church. He first married Miss Katie Wills, who died in 1934. He later married Miss Bessie Street, who survives, along with three daughters, Mrs. Lena Phillips and Mrs. Edith K Il ian of Chester, Pa. and Mrs. Frances Miller of Relief; four sons, Virg'l of Concordville, Pa., Clifton of Chester, Pa., and Eston and Dallas of Re lief; two brothers. Garfield of Green Mountain and Hob ert of Johnson City, Tenn.; a sister. Mrs Amy McCourry of Relief; and eleven grand children. MISS ALEEN CLONTZ Miss Aleen Clontz, 62. of Mtcaville, was found dead in her home Sunday. Dr. W. A. Y. Bargent, Yancey County coroner, ruled that death was due to natural causes. Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Shelby Hall of Mlcavllle, a brother, Kenneth Clontz of Lenoir City, Tenn. and sev eral nieces and nephews Services were held at 2 p. m. Tuesday in Mlcavllle Pre svbterian Church, of which she was a member. The Rev. John Powers of ficiated and burial was in Mlcavllle Cemetery. Pall bearers were Audie Grind staff, Billy Wheeler Leland Robinson, Phillip Westall, Johnny and Terry Hall. MRS. LORETTA WILLIS Mrs. Loretta Willis, 75, of Burnsville Rt 4, died Tues day in her home after a long illness. She was a native of Yan cey County. Surviving are a daughter, Miss Ora Lee Willis of the home; seven sisters, Mrs. Etta Bennett, Mrs. Ruby Sil ver and Miss Della Willis all of Burnsville, Mrs. Martha Jane Randolph and Mrs. Vista Wilson, both of Chea nee 8. C., Mrs. Winnie Edw ards of Marlon and Mrs. Minnie Bailey of Morganton and a brother, Hiram Willis of Burnsville Rt. 1. Services were held at 2 p. m. Friday in Piney Hill Free Will Baptist Church. The Rev. Roacoe Briggs Jr. officiated and burial was In the Willis Cemetery. ANASTASIA TOMBERLIN Miss Anastasia Tomberlin of Burnsville,. Route 3, died in an Asheville Hospital Wednesday after a short Illness. She was the daugh ter of the late Wm. T. and harr.ett Heusiey Tomberlin. She is survived by one sis Iter, Mrs. Monroe Mclntosh of Burnsville; six brothers, Bruce M., Charles and Will iam of Burnsville, and R. A., Hugh and Donald of Ashe villle, and three nephews. Miss Tomberlin had tau ght in the Yancey County Schools for 35 years, and at the time of her death was a member of the Cane River High School faculty, where she taught foreign languages, and was school librarian. She was active in all profes sional organizations, and was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an international teachers organization, and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Bald Creek Chapter. She was a member and ac tive in the affairs of the Mt. Pleasant Faotlst Church, in which church funeral ser vices will be held at 2:30 p m Thursday. The Rev. E. J. Hall and Rev. Bascombe Hensley will officiate. Bur ial will be in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be men teachers and boys of the Ben)or Class of Cane River High School. The lady teachers and girls of the Senior Class will act as flow er girls. The body will remain at Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home unt'l taken to the church to lie In state thirty minutes prior to the service.
