LOCALS Mr. and Mrs. Biot Higgins ana sen, Burt, Jr., of CharlUie spent last week-end w.th Mr. Cecil Higgins and Mrs. Troy Ray. Mrs. Ruby Goodin of San Francisco, Caiiforn.a, who has been visiting her brother and sister here for a month, went to Charlotte w.th the Butt Higgins family and will visit them and her granddaughter in Charlotte before going to Cl.o, S. C., to visit her daughter, Mrs. Theo dore Swann and family. She will remain in Clio until after Than ksgiving, at which time she will return to San Franc sco, where she makes her home with her sen, Joe Goodin. Mr. and Mrs. Roger Derrough and children of Ashevßle spent last week-end with Mrs. Der rough’s mother, Mrs. Troy Ray. Mr. and Mrs. Hraold Jones and children of Marion visited his parents, Mr. ami Mrs. Albert Jones, last week-end. Miss Zoe Young spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Howard Murry and Miss Nancy Taylor at their summer home in Vaile Crucis, N. C. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Bingham and Mrs. Mack Ray spent the week-end with Mr. Ray in Murphy. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Ray spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Quinn in Kingsport. Tenn. Mr. and Mrs. Harold.Presnell and children and Mrs. W. A. Presnell visited Mr. and Mrs. Ted Phillips and Mrs. Mary B'ankensh'p in Johnson City, Tenn., on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Dawkins and son Chris vis'ted Mrs. Daw kins’ parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Edge in Newdale over the week-end. Mr. Dawk'ns, who has been taking a tracing course in Industrial engineering at Col lins Aikman’s plant in Albemarle, N. C, is being located at the .OHins Aikman plant in Old F'rt. where they will make their home. Brady Lee Badev, a student of Apna'ach'an State University, spent ihe week-end with his parents. Mr. and Mrs, Carl Vance of Cianforu, N. j.; Gv.ss Vance of Cnaritue; Mrs. Zula Brown of Mai,.iand; Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Price and son of Charlotte, and Mrs. Doily Angel who has been living in Ozark. Ala , for the pa:,', year, were in Burnsville last week due to the death and funeral of Mrs. Nellie Angel of Burnsville. Mrs. Dolly Angel will remain in Burnsville. Dr Edward W. Sutton (Capt. U S Army Medical Corps) and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph C Sutton of Raleigh were re cent visitors of Mr. and Mrs. 7. B Byrd. Mrs. Sutton is Mrs. Byrd’s sister. Dr Sutton who has served me year in Viet Nam, three m< n'.hs in the field and nine months as Chief of the out pa tient clinic of' the 17th Field Hospital in Saigon, is now sta tioned at the 249th General Hos pital near Tokyo, Japan. Last Saturday he accompanied 12 lit ter and thirty ambulatory pa tients to Wa'ter Reed Army Hospital in Washington, D. C., as phycician-in-charge. After serving his military commit ment he will return to his prac tice in Gardena, California. Dilling ham and Mr. and Mrs. 0. W. Leyton and daughter, Cathy, attended Homecoming and the Staie-Wake Forest football game at State College, Raleigh last week-end. Both Mr. Dillingham and Mr. Deyton are State Col lege graduates. They were ac compan ed by Mike Warren, Bobby Yeung, Chris 'Cooper, Philip Robinson and Patsy Ay ers, high school seniors who are ant cipating attending State Col lege next fall. High school seniors from all over the state visited the college last week-end. They stayed ft •the Youth Center at the college. They were shown through the dormitories, athlete department, were served dinner at the col lege and also saw exhibits and films. Bagwell, was given Tuesday night at the Big Tom W Ison Bear Hunt ng Club House, Pensacola. Hostesses were Mrs. Zula Ray, Aunt, and Mrs. Pereda Bagwell, Grandmother of the honoree. Hot Dogs galore were roasted at the big fire place. B'ngo and other games were played. The party ended with the cut ting of the trrthday cake, serv ing of ice cream and hot choco late. 'ihe keynote speaker was Mr. Clyae Greenway, who heads the Community Improvement Pro gram in the Southeast for Sears Roebuck & Co. Mr. Greenway stressed the importance of c.ti zens of all localities, and parti cularly the tourist centers of Western N. C., knowing the ponts of interest in their town cr community, and doing a good selling job to people with whom they come in contact, particu larly the travel ng public. He said that on numerous occasions, when traveling through the towns and countryside he had stopped at filling statons and restaur ants, and made it a point to in quire of serv ee station employ ees, restaurant owners, wait resses, etc., the places of inter est in their town, and invar ably the answer would be “nothin'?", and in some instances he would be told he just as well travel on, , as there was noth'ng of interest around there this is face of the fact that there might be places of historic interest, na t:onal or state parks, beautiful scenery, etc. He said the public, and particularly people serving the public, should be better trained ; n this area, and should be enthusiastic about their town or countv and po all out to do a good selling iob; and that this was Dant’cularly true of West ern N.
