Couple Celebrates Golden Wedding Day The Christmas season just past was a double celebra t i on for Mr. and Mrs. Quillen Mil ler of Erwin, Tennessee, and for their children, grandchild - ren, and great-grandchildren too. December 22 was their Golden Wedding Day. Christmas at the Miller house was not only white but golden, in honor of the day in 1919 when Ethel Leora daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mack Elliott of Jacks Creek, North Carolina, married Lee Ouillai Miller, the son of Joseph Mil ler of Ramseytown, N.C. While the Christmas snow fell outside,- the Miller house was aglow with gifts of siher and golden ware and Christmas poinsettas. The scene was do minated by a majestic 4-tier /'Golden Wedding cake topped by an arch of golden wedding bells—baked and decorated by their daughter-in-law, Mae. Most important of all, the far flung Miller family had made the pilgrimage to Erwin from all over America. Starting out their married life on a mountain farm in North Carolina, the Millers had reared seven children: Maidge (Mrs. Bruce Phillipsjof Erwin; Ford Miller, a civil service employee at the Naval Shipyard in Chesapeake, Va.; Lee Miller, manager of the Big Star Food Market in Hick - ory, N. Son-in-law Bruce Phillips works at the Casket Plant. Son in-law Sgt. Franklin Wilson serves in the Air Force as a radio operator in the Phillipne Islands and shuttles to Vietnam when on duty. Ford and Sher ril were unahle to.attend but all of their children were there, as were Mr. and Mrs. Elzie Ray of Erwin. The Miller grandchildren are Ford's daughter, Mrs. Lee Copeland of Portsmouth, Va.; Lee's children Linda, Myra and Danny; Shirley's child - ren Mark and Brian, and Sher ril's children David and Jeff. There are two great-grand children, Wayne and Cin d i Copeland. 76-year old Quillen Miller insists that he has retired from fruit and vegetable farming .. But as almost everybody knows he still tends his garden on 312 acres, and his pick-up truck parked near the Court House still offers some of the best ap ples in the state. Mrs, Miller who is 2 years younger than her husband, still enjoys takipg care of Quillen and the house* and does not even claim to be retired. The Quillens are mem bers of the Free Will Baptist Church. THE YANCEY RECORD QUALITY MOBILE HOMES Os Swannanoa We Now Have In Stock A Large Selection Os Mobile Homes.
