Meeting The Burnsville Homemaleifs Club held their February meet ing on Friday afternoon, March 6, at the NuWray Inn, with Mrs. Annie Bennett as hostess. An explanation may be in order here - the February meeting had to be postponed twice due to the flu epidemic, resulting in two meetings of the Club in March. Twenty five mem bers and guests were present. Mrs. P.C. Coletta, Presidert, called on Mrs. Elizabeth Silver Devotional Chairman, for the devotional. Mis. E. L. Dillingham, Cloth ing Chairman, gave a very in teresting and informative talk on new trends in fashions for women and girls. A Mrs. Mary Margaret Extension Home Economist sta ted that "Homemakers" Chal lenge Days" would be held at Assembly Inn in Montreat in May, and that the Club would be hearing more about this meeting. Mrs. Coletta stated that in line with the 50tli Anniversary of Homemakers Clubs,the re gular March meeting will be in the form of an old fashioned quilting party to be held with Mrs. Ralph Jacks, at which time Mrs. Nefi'Bennett will in struct the members in the al -~ most forgotten art of quilting Mrs. Jacks will furnish the quit top. The meeting will start at nine o'clock with a cover e d dish luncheon at twelve ofclock Mrs. Lena Letterman will be co-hostess with Mrs. Jack, with Mrs. Troy Ray, Mrs. Jennie Penland and Mb. Mary Gilles pie acting as assistants to Mb. Bennett. Mrs. Deyton introduced Mrs, Fraida M. Terrell, Area Agent in Creative Crafts, whotalked interestingly on Opportunities in Creative Crafts, with many attractive crafts to illustrate her talk. During the social hour Mb. Bennett, assisted by Mis Winnie Lou Ray and Mrs. Lillian Jel - ley, served a dessert couße. Mr. and Mrs. Ike Laughrun 50th Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Ike Laughrun of Burnsville will observe their 50th Wedding Anniveßary on March 12. They will be honor ed with a reception on Saturday, March 14 from 7:00 to 9:00 pun. in the Fellowship Hall of Hig gins Memorial Methodist Church The reception is being given by the couple's children. There are no formal invitations being sent, but all friends and rela tives are invited to attend. The Laughruns have three children: Maj. N.B. Laughnn, Montgomery, Alabama; Mb. William Cherry, Colonial Hgts.. Virginia; and Mr. Kenneth laugh run, Burnsville. They have 8 grandchildren and 2 greatgrand children. •hiE C>WS With March being the month of kites and wind, forty -two children made windmills this past Monday morning and af ternoon at 10:00 a. m. and at 3:00 p.m. at the Children's Hour in the Yancey County Pub lic Library. Assisting Miss Theresa Cot etta for the two Children Horns were Mb. Mary Young, Mb. Nellie Styles, Mb. Jim Roland Mj«. Ronnie Proffitt, Mb. Eliza beth West all and Mb. Young and Mb. Jones from the Yan cey County Child Developmeit Center. Since the children did spend the entire hour ma k ing the windmills, they will learn about windmills and Holland at the next Children's Hour.
