E.Zicx Church was host to the one-day session of the Blue Ridge A. M. E. Zion Church on the 21st of April, 1970. Bishop Charles Eubanks Tuc ker of Louisville, Kentucky is the Presiding Bishop of the Fifth. Episcopal District of The A.M.E. Zion Church. Griffith Chapel is one of its Churches. Due to the illness of the Rt. Rev. Tucker, Dr. A. Presiding Elder of the Hender sonville District and Rev.J.A. Lipsey, Presiding Elder of the Asheville District presided the meeting Ministers and Laymen at tended from the several chur - ches of the Conference,which extends into Tennessee and Georgia, in addition to N.C. During this session, a total of $6, 305. 76 was raised on connection assessments. Other offering receipts totalled the amount of $77.05. The Rev. Mrs. Mattie L. Ray is host pastor. This program was plann e d and produced by the eighth grade members as their Chal lenge of Social Dependability. A Challenge in Cadette Scout ing is a real life situation in which a girl's ability is tested in many different ways. Winchester, District Office^ in the Courthouse with the County Service Officer at Burnsville, N.C. the second and fourth Thursday of each month from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p. m. to assist with vete rans and their be - nefits. Mr. Winchester stated that veterans who had more than 180 days of regular creditable active service (other than for training purposes only), on or after February 1, 1955 are en titled to education or on-job training of 1 1/2 months for each month served up to 36 months. In some cases entit led can amount to more than 1 1/2 months for each served, but not more titan 36 months total under the new G. I. Bill. He also urged all persons who had injury or illness of other conditions which origi - nated in or was aggravated by different and all exciting. They are steps to becoming a First Class Girl Scout.
