PAGE 16 THE YANCEY RECORD Fund Drive Underway For New Avery Library A fund drive has been an nounced this week to raise SIO,OOO in local funds for construction of a new Avery County Public Library to be located off the Town Squire in New land. Working plans for the Libra ry have been finalized and an artist's conception of the com pleted structure appears abotc. Some statistics might be in order to compare the projec - ted library with the present facility. The new library will con tain 6,426 square feet as com pared to the present 961 square feet. There will be shelving facilities for more than 26,000 books as compared to the pre sent inadequate 7,000 books. The children's area will be ade quate to take care of the pre sent weekly Children's Hour, one of the most popular sea - tures in the library, expanding totally inadequate pr ese nt area from 40 square feet to more than 1000 square feet. In addition a large meeting room will be constructed with in the facility that will seat 75 persons and be available for RIVERSIDE i DRIVE IN THEATER ! Film and slide projection facilities will be available in this room. A special music room will be provided with listening fa cilities for an expanded record and tape collection and storage for more than 2,000 records maintained therein. Local history as well as the reference needs of patrons will be housed in the Robert Morrison room, memorializing that late citi zen of Avery Comity whose generosity under the terms of his will made the possibility of such a fine building more of a reality. The entire structure will be carpeted, electically heated and air-conditioned with air filtration for the protection of materials and the comfort of patrons. Funding the building will be from Library Services and Construction Act funds of ap - proximately $50,000; Appa lachian Regional Commission funds of $40,000; the Robert Morrison Trust of $50,000; an !
