t * „ Parkway Playhouse Opens Soon Parkway Playhouse,a unique summer theatre which combines college courses with all phases of play production, will launch its 25th anniversary season this summer. A featured attraction in Burnsville, Parkway is oper ated through the theatre prog ram of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. The 25th anniversary season will get under way July 7 with the production of "Cyrano De Bergerac." The play, written by Edmond Rostand, will be directed by Lauren Woods,who once again will serve as co manager of Parkway. The play will continue through July 10. Parkway's managing direc - tor, J. Gordon Greene of the UNC-G Drama Department fa culty, is particularly looking forward to the Cyrano produc - tion. Not only will it mark the beginning of another sum mer at Parkway for Gordon,but it will also mark an end to his three years of self-imposed "re p®* I. i U ».i I A reek At Jack’s Creek 1 ■ " i * « - * By Kay Honeycutt 682-2706 W. C. and Mr. Dewey Honeycutt of Chattanooga, Tennessee, visited family and friends last week. • • Mr. and Mrs. Royce Wes tall and family of Henderson - ville, N.C. visited Mr. and Mis. Lee Roy Silveß over the weekend May 8 and 9. • • Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Phil - lips of Burnsville visited Mrs. Ida Ruth Phillips, Sunday May 9th. • • Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Bailey visited Mr. and Mrs. Jim Muse and children in Atlanta, Ga. May 8 and 9. • • Mb. George Letterman and Mb. Joe Hunter of Tennessee visited their mother,Mrs.Cenia Phillips, on Mothers Day. • • Mb. C.L. Bailey visited her sister, Mb. Jenny Bennett in Relief, N.C. on May 2. • • Mr. and Mb. Earl Honey - cutt and son of Georgia spent Saturday night, May 8, with Mr. Honeycutt's mother, Mb, Margaret Honeycutt. Also visiting Mb. Honeycutt was her daughter, Ruth and her hus band, Paul Laughrun of Burns - ville. • • Ronnie and Larry Byrd visi ted their family and frie n d s on Saturday, May 8. Ronnie goes to college in Charlotte, * - Tw J. Gordon Greene tirement'from acting. Gordon says he plans to play the part of Cyrano in the open ing production. He was a pro fessional actor for quite a few yeaß before he became an as sistant professor of drama at UNC-G in September of 1969. This year's schedule at Park way is as follows: "Cyrano De N.C. Billy McCur ry and family visited MB.Rvby Briggs of Thomasville,N.C. They also visited Mr. and Mb. Robert Higgins and Deborah of Winston-Salem,N. C. • • Hollis Honeycutt and Kay visited Mr. Park Adkins and Lora of Relief,N.C. Sunday. • • Mr. and Mb. John Byrd have returned home from a fishing trip in South Carolina. • • Mb. Willie Dale Trimmer and daughter of Virginia are vi siting friends and relatives. • • A household shower was given for Mr. and Mb. Harley Fox Friday night, May 14, at the home of Mb. RubyFox.The shower was given by thevomm of the Jacks Creek Baptist Church. • • Membeß of the Jacks Creek Baptist Church were glad to see Miss Laura Mae Hilliard with them for Sunday morning woßhip services. • • A family that prays together stays together. The complete staff at Park way has not been selected yet, but Larry Alford, drama direc tor at Chipola Junior College in Florida, will be back as the publicity director. In addi - tion, James Parker, a faculty member at Catawba College, will be designer. The company will consist of approximately 30 students this summer with staff and faculty membeß pushing the total to 40 mem beß, according to Greene.
