Alley, a former resident of Burnsville, under went surgery in a Trenton,Ohio hospital recently. Her husband was pastor of the Fist Baptist Church here for several years. Later he established Faith Fel lowship Church. * Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Coop er spent last weekend with Mr. Cooper's brother,C.C. Cooper at Bostic,N.C. * Mr. Johnny Gillespie who has completed four years in the Navy is home visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Byrd Gillespie. He will remain for two weeks and then enter Bro ward College in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. * Mr. and Mrs. John Martin are home after visiting rela tives in Atlanta and Decatur, Ga. for the last two weeks. * Captain George Downing went to Staten Island, N.Y. last week to attend the 50th Wedding Anniversary of his brother and wife, Colonel and Mrs. Paul H. Downing. Col Downing is the foremost auth ority on Horse Drawn Vehicles and has supervised the restora tion of many of the carriages in museums throughout the U.S, as well as the carriage Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip rode in at Williamdnrg, Va. in their visit to the U. S. * Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gill espie and family attended the graduation from high school of Mrs. Gillespie's sister, Miss Debbie Turner from St. Maryi Jr. College in Raleigh, during the weekend. This Association is responsible for the listing of communities in the Blueßidge Parkway Guide, which is widely distributed throughout the Southeastern part of the United States. At present, .according to Down - ing, Burnsville is not listed. * Miss Faye Letterman grad uated from Mars Hill College with aB. A. Degree last week, * Mr. and Mis. Bill Buckner of Route 3,Burnsville spent last weekend in Raleigh at tending the graduation of their son, WilUam Jr.. He received a B. S. degree in Agricultural Education after having attained the highest grade point a\erasp of all graduating seniors in that field, and received outstand - ing senior awards from both tin Agricultural Education C lub and the Education Council. While atNCSU, he was a member of the 1970 NCSU livestock Judging Team that competed at major contests throughout the nation. * Mr. and Mrs. Jess Styles were honored on their 25th Wedding Anniversary Sunday, May 16, with a party given by their son, Danny Styles, and daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Anglin. * Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Ro berts spent last Tuesday, May 11, in Laurel Springs, N. C. due to the death of their son - in-law's father, Mr. Eugene Shepherd.
