This player is not necessarily the most skilled player, but the one /vho plays with the most determination and un dying spirit. This week the choice by the coaches is Jimmy Norris, a senior halfback on the team. He is the son of Mr. and Mis. Bill Norris of Arbuckle. Some of Jimmy's activities outside football are Beta Club, Monogram Club, Annual Staff, literary Magazine, Basketball and Baseball. We want to urge Jimmy aid the other members of the team to keep up the good work. ★ By Kathy Laws The 71-72 Beta Club's new members of East Yancey have been chosen. They are ss fol lows: Eleventh Grade--Tony Al len, Bobby Bennett, Luanne Banks, Shercc Banks, Linda Hughes, Larry McMahan, San dra Norris, Mitzi Presncll,Deb bie Thomas, Ricky Wilson. Twelfth Grade —Debra Sil vers. The Beta Club Officers are: Johnny Blair, President; Jimmy Norris, Vice President; Janice Hunter, Secretary; and Janice Young, Treasurer. To be a Beta Club member -.ou have to have an average of ninety or above. The Beta Club is sponsored by Mrs. Doro thy Ray. By Robert Howard The 1971-72 Journalism Club of East Yancey High met on Wednesday, September 22 and elected officers on Thurs day, September 23. Mr. Claud Leslie of Bakers ville showed some slides with the he lp of Charles McCurry. The new 1972 officers are: President, Linda \nglin; Vice President, Charles Robinson; Secretary, Zoe Ann Kaulf; Trea surer, Mitzi Presnell and Pub - lication, Ricky Huskins. The Journalism Club will meet once a month, every third week on Wednesday. We will plan to have a guest speaker. ★ BICYCLE WHEEL—East Yancey High School students Larry Robinson and Carol Ray focus their attention on the axis of a spinning bicycle wheel held by GM representative Harry Czu— bek, Jr. The wheel is used to demonstrate two basic proper ties all gyroscopes exhibit: inertia and precession. This and eight other fascinating research demonstrations were presen ted to East Yancey High students on Monday, Sept. 27 when GM's “Previews Os Progress" science show visited Burnsville. ★ The Panthers of East Ymcey have only five games left. Please come out and support them. Tommy Hylemonof Burnsville, on Saturday, Sep tember 25. The ceremony was held at the Fist Christian Church of Asheville, and was officiated by Rev. Jama Smith. Mr. Worth Joyner, Jr. of Wzke Forest, N.C., was best man, and Miss Lesley Slone, sister of the bride, was maid of honor. The service was fbl- I **l Kathy Jean Davis Engaged Mr. and Mrs. Brack Davis of Pensacola announce the en gagement of their daughter, Kathy Jean to Teddy Eugene Phillip*, son of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon E. Phillips of High Point, North Carolina. Miss Davis is a graduate of East Yancey High School and Guilford Technical Insti tute. Mr. Phillips is a graduate of Ragsdale High School and Guilford Technical Institute in Jamestown, N.C. Wedding plans will be announced later.
