The building of the fence will be sponsored by the Cane Ri\er Boosteß Club, Cane River High School, and the Yan cey County Board of Educa - tion. * By Marie Maney Is Santa Claus dead, or per haps I should say is Santa Claus alive? If you asked that question to a group of people the majority would probably say, "Os course, Santa Claus isn't dead; are you crazy or something?" But just take a look at their lives and see if you think Santa Claus is alive or dead. What does Santa Claus mean to a young child? He is a big fat man with a red suit, a white beard, and a sleigh pulled by eight tiny reindeer. Cw Christmas Eve, when all are tucked snugly In bed, he comes down the chimney and leaves everyone gifts. To some people like Scrooge, Christmas and San ta Claus are just a sillyidiim for the children. These peo ple do not know and under stand the real reason tint we have Christmas. Theycould not care less about celebra ting the birth of Christ. To a lot of people Christ mas is just a time when they have to go out and buy gifts and put up trees and decora tions. They do not give gifts because they want to, but because they think they I SEPTIC TANKS • DITCHING • RESiVOIRS B I Cooper & Byrd I Ditching Service M since 1952 1 jf Phone: RT.1,80x252 i ■ 682-2436 Burnsville, N.C. | 682-3713 I Clairol I I <£jr£o77 w aj*** * Reg-$2-25 I 52 ' ,:#4' $1" I I Westdox Drowse II HI I Reg. $6.98 Jssk, 'Jk' I I ss»* .SfJSI ■ fm I I Stick 00/ ££ m I I Afo Hot Lather v ™ ®t I I a W| Machine kil22-» I I "iVcM 5 © Re " iD *'°" 1 I '* sls®° Rechargable 1 I Razor For Men I I Clairol Mist f ===@ ssss 7l (Q9BB I I Hair Setters , I POLLARD’S I , DRUGS | I Burnsville, N.C; I have to, and they want othen to give them gifts. Then there are the peo - pie who keep Santa Claus alive; not the person of San ta Claus, but the spirit of Santa Claus. To these peo ple Christinas and Santa Claus means more than get ting gifts; to them it means the birthday of Christ. They do not mind giving; in fact, they love to give. The spirit of Santa Claus and Christ mas lives in their he arts. They think of Christmas as a time to woßhip God and let otheß see the spirit of Christmas in their lives. Is the spirit of Santa Claus alive In you? Do you cele brate Christmas for the real reason or for some selfish reason? ★ By Deborah Grindstaff Tuesday the Cane River students had the pleasure of selecting and decorating their Christmas tree.
