Simmons, son of Mr. and Mrs. Morns Simmons of 165 Weis - worth Ave., Madison, Term., has graduated at Keesler AFB, Miss., from the U.S.Air Force technical instructor course con ducted by the Air Training Command. Airman Simmons is now qua lified to plan and teach lessons in technical courses. He is a 1969 'graduate of East Yancey High School, Burnsville. The airman's wife, Nona, is the daughter of Earl Gurley, Route 5, Burnsville, N.G Airman Steve D. Boone,son of Deward E. Boone of Route 2, Burnsville, has been assigned to Sheppard AFB, Texas, after completing Air Force basic training. During his sixweeks of training at the Air Training Command's Lackland AFB,Tex, he studied the Air Force mission organization and customs and received special instruction in human relations. The airman has been assign ed to the Technical Tr ai ning Center at Sheppard for. special ized training in aircraft main - te nance. Airman Boone was graduated from East Yancey High School in 1968. Ben Mandala, the new owner-operator, is stressi'ng'family entertainment and has completely remodeled the theater. Mandala said that quality, first-run movies will be shown, along with two matinees—Saturday morning at 11:00 and Sunday afternoon at 1:30. Doily show ings of the main atfraction will be at 4:00, 6:00 and 8:00 and each showing will include a short comedy feature as an added bonus. Admission will be sl. 25 for adults and $. 75 for children. Each Wednesday night will be "date night" and couples v-ill be admitted for sl. 50. The matinee prices are $. 50 for children and SI.OO for adults. SIo ffifyggg CALLIE CARROWAY Mrs. Callie Carroway, 57, of the Celo section of Yancey County died in a WNC hospital Monday morning after a long illness. Surviving are the husband Lawrence Carroway; two sons, Jimmie Carroway of Brevard,N. C. and Jack Carroway of Cono ver, N.C.; four sisters, Mrs. Frey Williams, Marion, N.C., Mrs. Maude Boone of Hudson, N.C., Mrs. Brown Riddle and Mrs. Frank Burleson of Spruce Pine; one half sister, Mrs.Wtsh Gurley of Burnsville, Rt. 2; one brother, Paul Greene of Spruce Pine, N.C.; seven grandchild ren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services were held Wednesday, 2:00 p. m. in the Brown's Creek Baptist Church. Rev. Phillip Nordstrom and Rev. Hugh Borders officiated and bur ial was in the Carroway Ceme tery. MARY PROFFITT Miss Mary Glenn Proffitt, 50, formerly of the Bald Creek Com munity died unexpectedly in Louisville, Ky. Wednesday morning. She was the daughter of Mrs. Virgie Gibbs Proffitt and the late Glenn E. Proffitt. Surviving in addition to the mother are two sisters, Mrs. Vera P. Steel and Mrs. J. Yates Biiley and one brother, James Proffitt all of Bald Creek; 8 nephews and neices also survive. Funeral services were held Friday at 2:30 p. m. in theEhld Creek United Methodist Church. Rev. J. Rogers officiated and burial was in Proffitt Cemetery. HORACE EDGE Horace S. Edge, 79, of Burnsville, died in a Western North Carolina hospital Thurs day at noon following an exten ded illness. He was owner and proprietor of Edge's Department Store in Burnsville until his re tirement in 1971. He was a World War I veteran and was a member of the original Selec tive Service Board in Yancey County during World War II and served on committees in the First Baptist Church vAere he was a deacon, a member of the Yancey Hospital Board and active in other civic affairs. I Surviving are the wife,Thel ma Anglin Edge; two sisters, Mrs. Joe A. Young and Mrs. Nola Westall; and two Arthur G. and Ollis E. Edge; all of Burnsville. Funeral Services were held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the First Baptist Church in V B urns - ville. Rev. Harold McDonald officiated and burial was in the Robertson Cemetery. WILL CARROLL Mr. Will Carroll, 69, of Burnsville died Friday night in a Burnsville hospital after an Illness of 6 months. He was a native of Yancey County and a retired farmer. He is survived by the wife, Irene Ward Carroll;' eight daughters, Mrs. Nola Ward of Johnson City, Tenn., Mrs. Be ulah Murphy of Relief, Mrs. Edith Phillips, Mrs. Judy Tho mas and Mrs. Thelma Owens of Burnsville, Mrs. Joyce Byrd, Mrs. Geraldine Higgins and Mrs. Rosemary Huskins of Hick ory; three sons, Welzie Carroll of Marion, Rev. Homer Carroll of Weaverville and Rev. Claucfe Carroll of Crews, Va.; three brothers, Crawford, Dewey and Robert Carroll of Burnsville; a sister, Mrs. John Briggs of Map ion; four half sisters and two half brothers and 23 grandchild ren also survive. Funeral services were held at 2:30 Sunday in Pleasant Val ley Baptist Church. Rev.Harlcn Ramsey and Rev. Lyda Ray of ficiated and burial was in the Pete Young Cemetery.
