TEljm RICHARD THOMAS Richard Gerome Thomas,, age 5, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ger ald Thomas of Charlotte, N.C. was instantly killed on Tuesday, October 23 in Charlotte as he was catching a bus for Kinder garten. Mrs. Thomas is the former Jean Wilson of Bald Creek. He is survived by the parents; 3 sisters, Kathy, Dawn and Kelley Thomas; one brother, Randall Thomas., all of the home; the maternal grandpar - ents, Mr. and Mrs. Pershing Wilson of Marion; the paternal grandmother, Mrs. Faye Tho mas of Marion; the maternal great-grandfather, Jim Wilson; and 5 uncles, all of Marion. Funeral services were held in Marion in Glendale Church of God and burial was in Efethel Cemetery. GASTON ANGEL Mr. Gaston M. Angel, 92, of Burnsville died Thursday morning in a Blowing Rock Nursing Home following a long illness. He was a member of tne Higgins Memorial United Methodist Church in Burnsvilfe and was a Justice of the Peace in Yancey County for 32 years. Surviving are the wife,Mrs. Mae Carroll Angel; one daugh ter, Mrs. Beatrice Robinson of Hendersonville; three sons, Pershing Angel of Forest City, Carroll Angel of Bennettsville, S. FONZE HUGHES Fonze A. Hughes, 75, of the Bowditch Community died in a Spruce Pine hospital Mon day morning after a long ill ness. He was a retired employ ed of Feldspar Milling Corpora tion. Surviving are the wife,Fra>- cis Bailey Hughes; seven daugh ters, Mrs. Floyd Wilson of Micaville, Mrs. Bill Moore of Stanley, N.C. , Mrs. Augustine Kemendez Azel of Morristown, Tennessee, Tho mas, Mrs. Bobby Burleson and Mrs. Harold Rhyne of Spruce Pine and Mrs. Raymond Robin son of Burnsville; eight sons, Max, Jack, Leroy and Rodney Hughes of Micaville, Ralph Hughes of Middletown, Conn., Charles and Michael Hughes of Burnsville and Larry Hughes of Brevard; one sister, Mb. Sam Sparks of Burnsville; one brother, Latt Hughes of Mica ville; 39 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren also sur vive. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p. m. in the Bowditch Union Church. Rev. Francis Radford officiated and burial was in the Pete Young Cemetery. WAYNE RAY Wayne B. Ray, 71, of the Pensacola Community of Yan cey County was dead on arrival Thursday night at an Asheville hospital after suffering an ap parent heart attack at his home. He was a retired fanner and had worked with the ASC Of fice for the past thirty years and was presently chairman of the County Committee. Surviving are the widow, Willie Riddle Ray, and sever al nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p. m. Sunday at Laur-1 Branch Baptist Church of which he was a member. Rev. Har - old Bennett, Jr. officiated and burial was in the Riddle Ceme tery. We would like to say thanks to all the friends who were so nice during the illness and death of Mis. The ladies enrolled in this class are making men's jackets from knit fabrics. For the more advanced home sewer, learning to sew for men can provide a real challenge. Ladies enrolled in thij;work - shop include Mrs. WaTJ-Sai Young, Mrs. Donald Ponder, *Mts.Wintz Mclntosh, Mrs. Susan Ball,Mrs. Arthur Ball, Mrs. Ronald Tom berlin, Mrs. Hugh Pate and flj f Mrs. Benny Ray Phillips. The workshops are being held on Thursday nights at the Cane River High School Home Eco nomics Department. Scheduled: Home Economics Extension Agents have announced plans for a number of crafts training workshops during the winter months. Purpose of the workshops is to promote a quality crafts program for homemakers pro ducing crafts for sale and to train leaders to return to their communities and share skills they have learned. THE YANCEY JOURNAL Instruction in Block and Leaf Printing, Candle Making, Macrame, Needlepoint, Quil ting, Broom Making, Basket Weaving and Pine Cones and Native Materials will be offer ed.
