BRUCE WESTALL - ~ ll Mr. and Mrs. Everette McNutty of Cozad, Nebraska spent last weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Don McQuade. * Mrs. Algada Kouger of Portland, Oregon is spending two weeks visiting Mr. and Mrs. Joe McQuade. * Misses Cathy Deyton and Janice Hunter have entered Berry College in Rome, Ga. for the coming school year. * The American Legion and Auxiliary will have its regular Fairview News Mr. Lawrence Cook has been in Spruce Pine Community Hospital for some time. All his many friends wish for him a speedy recovery. ** The small son of Mr. and Mrs. Ike Frye was released from the hospital today. •* Mr. Homer Huskins was admitted to Spruce Pine Com munity Hospital last night. •* Mrs. Roxie Ballew has had as her guests the past few days her granddaughter, Carylon from Durham, N.C. Club Discusses Art The first meeting of the Burnsville Woman’s Club after the summer recess was held on Thursday, September 12 at the Community Building. Mrs. W. A. Y. Sargent, the new president, was installed and presided over the business session. Prior to the program, a tribute of love and appreciation on behalf of the club members, in membory of Mrs. Joe Young, was read by Mrs. Sargent. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Lindsay will be leaving these parts the 15th for Orlando, Florida and the winter season there. ** Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Norton visited Miss Bertha Ballew and Paul last Wednes day. ** Mr. and Mrs. Eric H. Ganley will be leaving their summer home here October 3 and ‘returning to New York City for the winter months. president appointed several committees to further these plans. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Fox and Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Hughes of Newport News, Va. have been visiting with friends and rela tives in Burnsville. • Mrs. Ruby Goodin of San Francisco, Calif, is visiting with her brother, Cecil Higgins and her sister, Mrs. Troy Ray. * Mrs. Lucille Piercy is a patient in Yancey Hospital. * Attending the funeral of Charlie Proffitt who died last week were his two sons and families, Landon of Frederick, Md. and Charles of Wilson; a brother, Roy Proffitt arid Mrs. Proffitt of Charlotte, N.C. Visiting Mr. and Mrs. Byrd Gillespie are their two sons, Johnnie of Pompano Beach, Fla. and David and family of Pikesvile, Ky. * Among the casualties in the Eastern Airline that crashed Wednesday as it was approach ing Douglas Airport in Charlotte were Mr. and Mrs. David Flinton of Charleston, S.C. Mrs. Flinton has attended the Paint ing in the Mountains class at Burnsville for several years and had reservations at the Nu- Wray Inn for the fall term. Mr. Flinton spent the weekend while she was here. * John Hanahan, a teacher at Belmont Abby at Belmont, N.C. brought 22 students to Burns ville for the day Sunday. After attending services at Sacred Heart Catholic Church they had dinner at the Nu Wray Inn. * Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Westall visited their daughter, Mrs. Dick Marin and family in Fairfax, Va. last weekend. * Clara Harris is in Yancey Hospital in Burnsville. * Mrs. Walter L. Miner and daughter, Lucille of Nashville, Tennessee visited Mrs. Miner’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Luke Laughrun. ■L, S A “ Mi ■ ” j A L f jMk It > V y / mm -■ J# "Bmffllrr Bear Hunt In Maine Two Yancey County men recently returned from a Bear Hunting trip to Maine and a brief tour In Canada. Wesley Silvers and Burdette Deyton, both of Yancey County, each scored one bear kill. Silvers came in second place with the biggest bear while E.T. Taylor’s gtorp from the Eastern part of the state scored 4 bears, including the biggest one [shown abovel. Wayne Hoilifieid’s group from Old Fort did not make a kill. Neal Cassel, famous race car driver of Charlotte, also participated in the hunt and his group scored three bears. A total of nine bears was killed by the group of hunters, who also killed fifty coons. Citizens Os Week Chosen The Burnsville 6th graders voted for officers and commit tees two weeks ago, and the election results were: David Beaver, President; Brennen Hardy, Vice President; Tonya Allen, Secretary and Cynthia Whitson, Treasurer. The Burns ville 6th graders meet every Friday for a class meeting, during which they elect a “good citizen of the week”. The results of this week’s votes were Crystal McGalliard and Mike Wilson as this week’s good citizens.
