Pp. 329. Alfred A. Knopf, Inc., Publishers. Lady, a new suspense novel by Thomas Tryon, is a female Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde story. Except, in this case, the main character drinks from the vial of revenge and. in her own words, “lives in Hell there after.” Leading a double life (both open and secret). Lady Harleigh is'adored by every one in a small puritanical New England town, where she f The Victorians believed I that a heavy cough could I be cured by eating a bowl r of raw onions. The next-j 1 cough must have been I breathtaking. I reigns as a figure of glamour and elegance. But all is not sweetness and light. Murder and evil lurk in the shadows, to be concealed only by the lighthearted gaiety of the widow. Lady. Assuming that her laughter is a mask for a broken heart, the townspeo ple are most sympathetic. But when they discover that her gaiety is for real as she leads a double life, their anger knows no bounds. It is hard for them to accept the fact that their idol has feet of clay. The author bases his novel ■- on the fact that Lady is a victim of circumstance, and tries to justify her actions accordingly. The result is a character study of slow deterioration, with emphasis on murder and revenge. Woven into the plot is a bizarre romance which is chilling and unconvincing, as Lady seeks to establish the fact that if is not whom we love that is important, but only that we love. 1 [ Lunch Menu. { December 9-13 Monday Luncheon Meat and Cheese Sandwich Oven Baked Potatoes Carrot Strips and Lettuce Leaf Yellow Cake with Orange Butter Cream Icing Milk Tuesday Hot Dog on Bun Pork and Beans Cole Slaw Graham Cracker with Peanut Butter Milk Wednesday Spaghetti w/Meat Sauce and Cheese Tossed Salad w/Dressing Mixed Fruit Cup Roll Milk Thursday Vegetable Beef Soup Peanut Butter Sandwich Saitines Orange Juice Oatmeal Cookie Milk Friday Hamburger on Bun French Fries Cole Slaw Jello Milk lug HERE AND THERE.... j I * n ® urnsv *^ e ( U BY MRS.
