Woman’s Club Celebrates 50 Years A celebration of special significance was held on Sunday afternoon, August 8, at the Community Building. It was the golden anniversary of the birthday of the Burnsville Woman’s Club. An appropriate program had been prepared for the occasion. Serving as com mentators were Mrs. E.L. Briggs and Mrs. P.C. Coletta. They furnished the introduc tion, and took the audience down Memory Lane as they reminisced concerning the events, scenes, customs, and traditions of the town of Burnsville of 50 years ago. Mrs. Coletta conducted a memorial service to honor and pay tribute to the deceased club presidents who had served during the 50-vear span. Mrs. Briggs recognized and honored all living club presidents. She also gave a brief history of the founding of the Burnsville Woman’s Gub, Written by Mrs. Fred Proffitt, stressing the fact that the club was the founder of the present Yancey County library, as well as being a contributing force to all aspects of the community life of Burnsville. Mrs. Briggs presented a scroll of honor and tribute from the General Federation of Woman’s Clubs to Mrs. W.A.Y. Sargent, president, to be placed in the library for posterity. Receives Scroll MTI Knitting Class A class in knitting will be conducted by Mayland Tech nical Institute beginning on Wednesday, August 18. The class will be held in the Bee Log Community each Wed nesday from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. The course will cover all the basics of knitting and will give each student an opportunity to complete a project.
