Hos tesses were Mrs. Dover Fouts and Mrs. Mack Ray and Mrs. George King. Mrs. E.L. Briggs, presi dent, presided over the business session. Plans were made to attend the Fall District meeting on October 3 in Hendersonville. The International theme for the program for the evening was under the direc tion of Mrs. J.V. Cannon. The Girl Scouts wore foreign costumes to add to an authentic touch. The guest speaker for the evening was Miss Kathleen Peake, retired Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Nurse Donna Braithwaite, lisa Grindstaff, Vanessa Kmg, Sharon McClure, Brenda Wil liams, Tanis Wilson and Bee Young attended the Cadette Troop 65 Fall Organizational Meeting on Wednesday, Sep tember 7. Peake spoke at length of her life and experiences in World War II in Africa and Europe, and also in the Korean Conflict. Open discussion followed. A social hour concluded the meeting. Twenty-two members and guests were in attendance. IGIRLMIM (ai !s■■■■■■» -r leader, Mrs. Georgia Cannon, the girls examined and tried on Girl Scout uniforms from countries around the world. They also identified flags of many countries. This was in preparation for a program for the Burnsville Womans Club. Mrs. Cannon outlined activities for the coming Scout year which include make-up and clothing demonstrations, special visitors from he communities around, tours to Penland School and other places, crafts for girls them selves and for the hospital and nursing home, and many other activities which the girls will plan. All of these plans will assist the Cadettes in earning Challenges for the Cadette Girl Scout Program. The $2.00 registration fee is due no later than Septem ber 21, so the Cadette Troop 65 may be registered on time as a Pisgah Girl Scout Council Troop. Girls in the seventh, eighth, and ninth grades are invited to join the Cadettes for Wednesday afternoon meet ings at the Burnsville Catholic Church. The halftime score was 0-0. Despite the rainy weather and the mud, the Rebels came Mrs. Cannon presented an International Affstirs program for their sponsor the Burns ville Womans Club. The women were sisked to join in the singing tof “Make New Friends,” “Sing, Sing Toge ther,” “Kum-ba-yah,” and “Frefe Jacque.” After repeating the Girl Scout Promise and Laws, the Cadettes paraded around the room wearing uniforms from around the world and carrying various flags to add interna tional flavor. This was follow ed by the dancing of “The Seven Jumps,” a Danish game, by the Cadettes. The girls received much applause and the promise of money for a flag pole and stands for the troop from the Burnsville Womans Club. Cadettes enjoyed being with the Womans Club for their business session and for delightful refreshments too! These two touch downs were set up by Jeff Whitson’s punt return of 27 yards. Eddie Hammonds helped out with an intercep ted pass which was returned for 30 yards. The Rebels ended up with an exciting 14-0 victory over Mai^hall. CANE RIVER WINS SECOND GAME The Cane River Rebels football team went to Mars Hill to challenge the Mars Hill Wildcats on Saturday, Sep tember 10. During the first half Harley Paul Norton made two touchdowns, one of which was 12 yards and the other 5 yards. Cane River made the extra point. Also in the same half, David McFee made a touchdown of 14 yards. At halftime the score was 24-0. Then Barry McKinney did a quarterback sneak and made another touchdown. Extra points were made by David McFee and Harley Norton. Cheering them on to their 36-0 victory were their newly elected Cane River Cheer leaders. Defensive standouts for the past two games were Brett Neill, Eddie Hammonds, Car rol Elkins and David McFee. REBEL OF THE WEEK CANE RIVER vs MARSHALL In Cane River Middle School’s opening game against Marshall Harley Paul Norton was selected as the Player of the Week for his fine performance on offense and defense. Harley, who has been a standout on defense for the past two years, turned in an outstanding performance again from his middle-line backer position. Harley led a charge that was so furious that Marshall ended up with a net rushing of a minus 20 yards. On offense, Harley ripped off several long runs from his fullback position and scored the Rebels’ two touchdowns. REBEL OF THE WEEK CANE RIVER vs MARS HII.f. In Cane River’s 36-0 victory over Mars Hill David IJr a David McFee McFee was selected as Player of the Week. David pDlayed a beautiful game. He dominated play from the opening minute through out the game. David rushed for 220 yards and ran one touchdown and two extra points. On the second play of the game David broke off left tackle and raced 52 yards.
