4-H'ers Go To Camp
A total of 43 Cherokee County 4
H'ers left Monday morning for a week
at Camp Schaub, located in Haywood
County near Waynesville. They were
accompanied by Wendell Hedden,
assocation Extension agent in charge
of 4-H activities and several junior
leaders.
Youth Council Officers
The Murphy Youth Council held
its organizational meeting last
Thursday at the Murphy power
Board. Officers elected were; left to
right, Teresa Davis, president; Roy
Wells, vice-president; Linda Pope,
secretary-treasure; and Tim
Ramsey, reporter. The tentative goal
of this council is a complete
recreation center for the Murphy
youth. All interested high school age
youth and all interested adults are
urged to attend the next meeting,
June 29, at 7:30 at the First Baptist
Church of Murphy.

Charles A. Burch 89, of Rt.
1, Hayesville, died early
Monday morning in an Andrews
Hospital after a long illness.
He was a native of Clay
County; a retired fanner,
lumberman and merchant. He
was a member of Mt. Pleasant
Baptist Church, a member of
the Clay Ix>dge No 301, having a
lifetime membership.
Surviving are 3 daughters;
Mrs. Neil Kitchens, Mrs. Claude
Street and Mrs. Eugene
Waldroup all of Hayesville; four
sons, Ralph of Chattanooga,
James of Raybun Gap, Ga.,
Ray, Muscle Shoals, Alabama
and Bobby S. Burch of
Hayesville; two brothers:
Homer and Paul Burch of
Hayesville, one sister, Mrs.
Ijennie Burrell of Hayesville. IS
grandchildren, and nine great
grand children.
Services were held at 2 p.m.
Tuesday in the Ledford's
Chapel United Methodist
Church with burial in the
church cemetery. The Revs.
John Burton, Harry Hawk, and
lewis Walker officiated.
Grandsons served as
pallbearers. Masonic graveside
rites were conducted by Lodge
No 301.
In lieu of flowers,
contributions were made to
theMt.Pleasant Baptist Church
Building fund.
Townson funeral home was
in charge of arrangmements.

MRS. SYLVIA L. COLEMAN
Mrs. Sylvia L. Coleman, 27,
of Rt. 3, Murphy, died
Monday afternoon in the
Andrews hospital after a long
illness.
She was a native of
Biddeford, Maine, a Registered
Nurse, a graduate of
Southeastern General Nursing
School, Lumberton; a member
of the American A.S.N, and a
Charter member of the
Broadway Womans Club at
Broadway, N.C.
She was a member of the
United Methoidst Church,
Biddeford, Maine.
Surviving are her husband,
fiarold Coleman, and her
ather; Frank Ligertwood of
Biddeford, Maine.
Services were held at 2
>jn. Wednesday in the Grape
Creek Baptist Church, with
jurial in the Church cemetery.

and Howard Killian officiated.

GARRETT
Mrs. Jessie Long Garrett,
73, of Marble, died Saturday in
Buncombe County, after a short
illness. She was born in Union
County, Ga? but was a resident
of Marble. She was the widow of
lames H. Garrett, Sr., who died
in April of this year.
Surviving are two
laughters, Mrs. Horace Rogers
of Swannanoa, and Mrs. Fred
Weeks of Summertown, Tenn.;
hree sons, Willard Garrett of
Waynesville, Owen Garrett of
Hyde, and James H. Garrett,
Jr. of Alexander, N.C.; a
brother, Britt Long of Murphy;
>8 grandchildren and 19 great
grandchildren
Jervices were held at 3 p.m.

Baptist Church, of which she
