Capt. Joe Baril Now In Salzburg, Austria SALZBURG, Austria. — Army Capt. Joseph F. Baril, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank X. Baril of Kinston, recently arrived in Salzburg, for duty with U. S. Forces in Austria. American elements of the four-power cooperative occupa tion force, USFA works close ly with military units of France, Great Britain and Soviet Rus sia in the liberated nation. Captain Baril, whose wife, Rosanna, is with him in Aus tria, entered the Army in 1934. Cpl. John Hill Has Leave in Japan KOBE, Japan.—Army Cpl. John L. Hill, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hill, Route 6, Box 381, Kinston, N. C., recently spent a seven-day rest and re cuperathion leave in Kobe, Ja pan. Normally stationed in Korea with the 25th Infantry Division Hill stayed at one Japan’s best resort hotels and enjoyed many luxuries unobtainable on the war-tom peninsula. STATIONED IN WEST Sergeant and Mrs. David H. Brown left last week for Beale Air Force Base, Cal., after spending a 30-day leave with Sgt. Brown’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. E. Brown in Mays ville. 4-H Notes Trenton 4-H CluJ> The Trenton 4-H Club held its regular meeting, January 7 at 1 p. m. in the school audi torium. We all stood and re peated the 4-H Pledge. Presi dent Delores Heath, presided over the meeting. Minutes of the previous meet ing were read and approved. Ray Durham gave a report on the last county council meet ing, which was held at the ag ricultural building on January 4. fjp An enjoyable program con sisting of poems and songs was given by Ray Durham, program chairman. Those participating were Sue Boyette, Brenda Heath, Dorothy Stllley and Joyce Whaley. Some slides were shown on roadside and yard scenes. Miss Owens gave a talk about $ur roadsides and yards and ways tc improve them. Some ways are by planting grass, cleaning up V'r & the tragh, setting out sUrub-i bery, sowing our lawns and sow ing flowers. Mr. Shackelford talked to us about mailbox stands which the 4-H clubs will start selling sometimes this week. The meet ing was then adjourned. JOYCE WHALEY Reporter Pollocksville The Polocksville 4-H Club held its regular meeting January 7, at 9 a. m. in the school audi torium. f The president called the meeting to order and led us'in the club pledged and motto. She asked If there was any business to be discussed and Mr. Shack leford asked us If we would like to plant cedar seedlings on the empty lot behind the school, and everyone-liked the Idea. The meeting was then turn ed over to the program chair man, Ann Arthur who read the .scripture, and led us in prayer.
