The June meeting of the Wom an’* Society of Christian Service ■was held fast Tuesday, evening in the social room of the Methodist church. Mrs. C. L. Morgan, new .ly elected president and Mrs. J. R. Pelletier, Mrs. Jake Phillips and Mrs. Nolan Jones were hostesses. The business portion was con ducted first. A report was heard on the Sub-District meeting held recently at Bethlehem church and a report was given op the Dhne A-Dip suppef. Plans were com pleted for another supper which was to be held Thursday June 8. In absence of the program lead ers, a devotional was given by .Mrs. J. R. Pelletier who gave the Call to Worship, Mrs. Robert Mattocks read scriptures from St. Matthew and St. Luke and a unison prayer was offered, followed by a hymn. Refreshments of .lemonade and cookies were ^enjoyed after being dismissed with the Woman’s Pur pose. Mrs. Manley Howard . Celebrates Birthday Mrs. Manley- Howard celebrated her birthday with a dinner given at her Maysville home Sunday. Those present from out of town were Mrs. Pearl Jarman and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Mercer of Trenton, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Ray Howard and son, Linwood, Mr. and Mrs. Lennie Garner and Mr. arid Mrs. Jimmy Lewis and baby of New port. f 5-~ Methodist Youths Have Cookout The MYF and their counselors, enjoyed a trip to Surf City Sat urday. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Thompson treated the group to a cookout with hot dogs, soft drinks, pickles and cookies. ’J'key also en joyed swimming and playing games. Those present other than the the Thompsons .were Pat Banks, Joyce and Cathy Meadows, Stevie and Elizabeth Phillips, CJleve Pro vost, Debbie Smith, Margaret Jones, Mac and Lynn Thompsn, their guest Debra Mattocks of Belgrade and another guest, Miss Susan Bell of Utah. PERSONALS Mrs. Julia Dunbar is in Kins ton this week visiting her son, Jerry, and family. * * * Mrs. Ray Gibson left last week for California where to visit her son and some time. Mrs. Edwin Barrow and children, Sonny and Mary Beth, deft last week for England where they will join Captain Barrow who is station ed there with- the army. Lynn Hignite and child* ren. ' • • • Mrs. A. C. Fosciie, just out of James Walkpr Memorial in Wil mington, is doing nicely at the home of her daughter, Mrs. M. Q. Rourk, at Shailotte. Her other daughter, Clara, is spending time there with her. • • Visiting Thursclay with' Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Morgan was her bro ther, Roland Waters, and his son, Stanley, and family of Rock Mount. Also spending last week with the Morgans was Miss Patsy Gibbles of Jacksonville.^ • • • Mr. and Mrs. Cleve Provost and boys, Junior and Johnny, were weekend visitors of the Joe Mor gans &t Portsmouth, Va., Johnny remained for a two weeks stay. » • • Mr. and Mrs. Tony Santamasso are in Hartford Conn, visiting his family. Mrs. Randolph Mills joined Mr. and Mrs. Marlin King last week on a vacation trip in the mountains. • • • Here last week visiting Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Thomas was their daughter, Mrs. J. D. Adams, and children, Duane and Connie, of Cary. * . ' * • • Mrs. A. M. McDaniel was in Near' Bern last Thursday to visit Mr. and Mrs. N. C. Thompson and to attend the Thursday evening grad uation of her granddaughter, Martha Thompson. Visiting her here during the weekend were Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Higgins of Cary. Carl Bryson of Charlotte recent ly visited his grandmother, Mrs. Carrie Brock, and his Aunt, Miss Yetta Brock. W. W. Monette was discharged from Craven county hospital in New Bern Thursday following sur-, gery and is recovering nicely at the home of his son, Joe. Visiting him and the Monette family during the past few days have been M/Sgt. and Mrs. J. W. Monette and child ren, Gail, Terry and Timmy, of Grand Forks, N. Dak., Mr. and Mrs. M. H. Monette and children, Debra and Donald, of Portsmouth, Va., Mr. and Mrs. Hildred Monet te of Bridgeton, Guy Monette and son, Jimmy, of New Bern, Clyde Monette of Pollocksville and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Goodman and son, Jamie, of Freeport, Tex., who are remaining for an extended vis it. Also visiting during the week were Mrs. Joe Monettes parents, the John Gillettes, of Silverdale.
