By Mr*. Nolan Jone* WSCS Head Has Executive Meeting Mrs. R. L. Mattocks, president ■of the W. S. C. S. called an exe cutive meeting last Friday at her home. Nine chairman and secretaries were present. Mrs. Ruby Knight opened with the devotional. She encouraged enthUsiam in the coming year and concluded with prayer. Mrs Mattocks read a poem and told the group that only by working together could the year ahead be a success. As secretary of missionary education, Mrs. Knight announc ed that the School of Missions will be held at the Methodist College at Fayetteville August 9 13. Registration cards may be obtained from Mrs. Knight. Books on the duties of each officer were made available. Mrs. Sara Pelletier, treasurer, gave a report and a budget was plan ned and was to be presented at the WSCS meeting for their approval. The ladies were asked to en list as many new members dur ing the coming year as possible. Mrs. Lillie Mae Meadows led in prayer to close the meeting. Committee Reports On New Equipment A further discussion on pur chasing additional equipment was held when the Maysville Fire Department met Monday evening at the Maysville Com munity building. The appointed committee re ported on various pieces of the new equipment that the depart ment is in the process of trying to obtain. Another committee reported on the alarm system that will be set up if it is approved. Next month, the group plans to go to Swansboro for a sea food supper. Robert Britt served fried chick en, french fries, slaw, hot rolls and soft drinks. Panel Program for WSCS Membership Mrs. Claudia Mattocks presid ed and welcomed 17 members of the WSCS at their meeting Tuesday in the social room of the church. Mrs. Sam Nell Thompson in troudced the program, “The Young American Mothers — Who Is She,” and one hymn was sung. Mrs. Lawrence Mal lard followed with the medita tion, reading several passages of scripture. A panel of three young mo thers, Mrs. Grace Jones, Mrs. Starling Pelletier and Mrs. Joan Thompson and two grandmoth ers, Mrs. Claudia Mattocks and Mrs. Mollie Pelletier, listened to the following talks; Today and Yesterday by Mrs. Mallard, Youth and Courtship by Mrs. Thompson, The American Dream Girl Versus the Young Mothr As She Is by Miss Jackie Jones, The Tragic Frequency of Di vorce by Mrs. Ruby Knight and A Word of Cheer by Mrs. IVJal lard. A discussion was then held by the mothers and grandmoth ers as to how the presented sub jects applied to them and a genera} discussion was also held. A prayer, a Blessing On FjUnilies, repeated in unison, concluded the program. ‘ mm* Routine business was trans lated and included a reading of minutes of the executive meet ing held Friday night at which time a budget for the coming church year was planned. This was presented, and was accept ed by the society. Following business, the hymn “Dear Lord Forgive” was sung as a closing prayer .and will be used to close all meetings to come. Mrs. J. C. Foscue and Mrs. Fannie Pruitt served crackers and ice-cream floats to those previously named and: Mes dames Dot Mallard, Judy Foy, Annabel Jones, Addie Smith and Misses Nell Jones and Clara Foscue. Frankie Monette Has Birthday Party Frankie Monette celebrated his 16th birthday last Saturday at a party in the Maysville com munity building given. by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Mon ette. The center of the room was draped with green, yellow and white crepe paper and balloons in assorted colors hung over head. The windows were also draped with crepe paper. The refreshment table, cover ed in green, held a center ar rangement of yellow snapdrag ons, daisies and gladiola in a milk white vase. They were flanked by yellow candles in milk white holders. Pastel shades of yellow, blue and green were also used in the refreshments which were: assorted sandwiches, potato chips, nuts, mints, sheet cake topped with green and blue ros es and fruit punch. Entertainment was provided by a band led by Jack Bright. Ap proximately 30 were- present included from out of town: Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Gillette, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Gillette, Jimmy and Kay of Silverdale, Mr. and Mrs. John Young of Stella, Mrs. F. L. Crawford and Linda of Swans boro, Jimmy Carroway of White Oak and Olivia Tyson of Snow Hill. Assisting Mr. and Mrs. Mon ette as chaperones were Mr. and Mrs. Everett Provost. PERSONALS Residents of Thompson, Ga. visiting last week with Mr. and Mrs. M. H. Thomas and Mr. Gerald Riggs were Mr. and Mrs. James McCorkle, Michael and Angela. Mr. and Mrs. Jay Michael and her father, Nicholis John have had as recent guests Mr. an< Mrs. George Jahn of Rock; Mount, Major and Mrs. T. E Symonds and Tommie of Wash ington State, Mr. and Mrs. Don family. *• * * Rev. and Mrs. R. N. Knigh Cathy and Robin visited relativ es at Columbia Monday. * • * Mr. and Mrs. Everett Provos were in Scotland Neck Sunday to visit a niece of Mrs. Provosi who was seriously injured in ar automobile accident. * * * Rev. and Mrs. Avery Lums den and boys, John and Seleth ial, Charlotte Gardner, Eliza beth Monette and Earline Yeo man are spending this week al Fort Caswell near Southport * * * Here recently visiting Miss Yetta Brock and Mrs. Carrie Brock were Mr. and Mrs. Carl Bryson and daughter of Char lotte. The Roland Nelson family ol Portsmouth, Va., spent the hol iday weekend with his parents. Mr. and Mrs. 4. W. Nelson. * * * Visiting Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. I. F. House and other relatives were Mrs. Don David son of Jacksonville, Fla. and Mrs. Jake Downing, son Mark and her father, J. T. Creech of Jacksonville. Mrs. Alice Meadows and chil dren Lionel, Edward and Eloise I are vacationing this week in the ' mountains. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Thomp ■ son, Lynn and Mac were in South Carolina last week visit ing relatives. This week Mr. and Mrs. Wil fred Britt and children of Kan napolis are visiting the Robert Britt family. * * * Mrs. A. H. McDaniel has had spending several days with her, her daughter and granddaught er from Gastonia, Mrs. B. T.
