Pvt. Shirley Conway At Fort McLellan . i_■ Private Shirldy P. Conway, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Othaj P. Conway of Grifton, complet ed eight weeks of basic training at the Women’s Army Corps Center, Ft. McClellan, Ala., March 31. She received instruc tion in Army history and tra ditions, administrative proce dures, military justice, first aid and field training. Man beaten, robbed Earl Johnson of Greenville re ported to Lenoir County authori ties early Sunday that two young white hitch hikers he picked up near Greenville, beat and rob bed him and stole his car and left him in a wooded area near Savannah Church. Jarman entered on active duty last October and was last stationed at Ft. Dix, N: J. Jarman is a 1965 graduate of Jones Central High School. John Harriett to Hunter AFB, Ga. Airman Second Class John B. Harriett, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Harriett of Rt. 1, PoUocks ville, has been graduated at Keesler AFB, Miss., from the training course for Air Force radio repairmen. Airman Harriett, who attend ed North Carolina State Univer sity at Raleigh, is being assign ed to Hunter AFB, Ga., for duty with the Air Defense Command. AF Commission to Kenneth E. Mize Kenneth E. Mize, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward C. Mize Jr. of 1112 Harper Drive, Kinston, has been commissioned a second lieutenant in the Air Force upon graduation from Officer Train ing School (OTS) at Lackland AFB, Tex. Lieutenant Mize, selected for OSC through competitive exam ination, is being assigned to Keesler AFB, Miss., for training and duty as an administrative officer. He is in the Air Train ing Command which operates the world’s largest technical school system to train person nel for Air Force duty. The lieutenant, a graduate of Contentnea High School, receiv ed his B.S. degree in 1965 from East Carolina College. Elijah Phillips at Navy Boot Camp Seaman Recruit Ronald Eli jah Phillips, 19, son of Mrs. Fletta Ethel Loftin of 213 Lin coln Street, Kinston, has grad uated from nine weeks of Navy Kinstonian's Mate On Duty in Vietnam Major James R. Massengill, whose mother, Mrs. Hattie A. Massengill, lives on Route 1, George Dupree to Air Force School Airman George D. Dupree, son of Mr. and Mrs. George B. Dupree of 2503 Carey Road, Kin ston, has been selected for tech nical training at Keesler AFB, Miss., as an Air Force communi cations-electronics specialist. The airman recently complet ed basic training at Lackland AFB, Tex. His new school is part of the Air Training Com mand which conducts hundreds of specialized courses to provide technically trained personnel for the nation’s aerospace force. Airman Dupree, a 1964 grad uate of Grainger High School, received his A.A. degree in 1966 from Wingate Junior College. basic training at the Naval Train ing Center at Great Lakes, 111. In the first weeks of his naval service he studied military sub jects and lived and worked un der conditions similar to those he will encounter on his first ship or at his first shore station. In making the transition from civilian life to Naval service, he received instruction under vet eran Navy petty officers. He studied seamanship, as well as survival techniques, military drill and other subjects. Army, Vietnam’s Aviation Section at Tan Son Nhut, March 7. Major Massengill, an aviation safety officer, entered the Army in 1953. He received his commis sion through the Reserve Offi cers’ Training Corps program at North Carolina State University, where he received his B.S. de gree in 1953. He is a 1948 graduate of Four Oaks High School. His wife, Hil da, lives at 1205 Meadowood Drive, Kinston.
