MILITANT BLACKS; ULTIMATE JUSTICE JOHN J. SYNOi People with a memory more than one yard long will remem ber the charge leveled against Southern leaders, some 10 years or more ago, when they settled upon “massive resistance” as their response to court-ordered desegregation. That was Harry Byrd’s creation, that phrase, and it gave birth to the accusation that such an attitude would es tablish a “climate of emotion” that, in turn, would end in racial strife, in bloodshed. That was the charge Liberals made a gainst Southern people who said “never” to the press for indis criminate racial integration. See what happened. Led by Earl Warren — the most horrible man since Judas— the Liberal pack began hammer ing it into Negro ears that Ne groes were deprived of this and that, were underprivileged, in short, were invidiously discrimi nated against. You know the rou tine. To get their point across, time and time again, they sent their bearded, dirty drop-outs in to the South. For weeks on end these latter-day Union Leaguers exhorted peaceful Southern Ne groes to “rise”, to “overcome”. And who established what “climate of emotion”? Let me show you who and what: In Mississippi, there is a rump “political” organization known as The Freedom Democratic par ty. These are the Black-Power boys, the same as sought to re place the duly-elected Democrat ic delegates to1 the 1964 conven tion. They were supported in that initial effort by the leading lights of the Liberal Establish ment, notably the ADA. Who finances them now, Lord only knows. We know this: The Freedom Democratic Party publishes a pe riodical it calls the FDP News. Smack dab on Page One of its September 16 issue is the phrase, BURN BABY BURN These words are surrounded by as evocative a bit of art work as you are apt to see, a gun, a pis tol, and a Molotov cocktail. That sets the tenor of the “message” The Freedom Democratic Party has for Mississippi Negroes. See how it goes: “For over 400 years”, it rants, “we have been ‘House niggers’. Did that get us anywhere ?-Is that getting us anywhere?” That was on Page Three. Page Four goes like this: “In South Africa and in the Congo, Black Freedom Fighters have put aside non-vio lence. They teach and practise self-defense warfare. Self-de fense warfare is guerilla war fare. A guerilla is a common man who decides to take up a gun and dedicate his life to the liberation of his people. The Mau-Mau were guerilla fighters. The Vietcong are guerillas. “Stokely Carmichael of SNCC, Rap Brown of SNCC and Robert Williams of the Revolutionary Action Movement have all de clared that Black people in A merica need to become gueril las also . . . (T)he guerilla philo sophy say that each one should take ten hunkies with them . . . In the past few years, over 20 civil rights workers have been killed in Mississippi ... If the Black community had responded by executing two hundred in fluential White Citizens’ Coun cil members, then State Police and the Courts might start bring ing justice to whites like Sheriff Rainey in Neshoba County . . . We must get together secretly and in small groups. Planning and discipline are supremely im portant to every serious fight er”. There is more but that should do it. That is the “climate of emotion” that has been estab lished, not by “massive resis tance” — in its grave these many years — but by telling the emotional Negro — day in, day out — that he is put upon. That is the true “climate of emotion” now prevalent in this land and it has been established, not by the shade of Harry Byrd, but by Earl Warren and his satraps; by John F. Kennedy; by his brother, Bob by; by Lyndon B. Johnson; by the whole Liberal Establishment in its effort to force miscegena tion upon us all, North, South, East and West, alike. It will be remembered, follow ing World War n, certain ele ments of the victorious allies, slavering for vengenance, de manded that “war criminals” be brought to trial. They were, and for the most part, the “crim inals” were summarily hanged. That was something new in the annals of warfare. It established a precedent, one, I believe will be again invoked. For it is not likely that White people will sub mit indefinitely to the “climate of emotion” these Liberal lead ers have created. It is more like ly, given enough provocation, White people and Negro people, alike, will insist that this sort of lawlessness be stamped out — will stamp it out. And, having done so, it is likely the question will be put, who brought this sadness to our land? Who is responsible? I have in mind a dozen or more I would love to see in the dock. Pray God.
