medienne
“Theodora Goes Wild,” starring
Irene Dunne in her first major
role as a comedienne, will be the
next attraction, at the Dolly Madison
Theatre. The film begins a two day
engagement starting today.
For the first time in a career
stubbed with such dramatice gems
as “Cimarron,” “Back Street,” “Mag
nificent Obsession,, and “Showboat,”
Miss Dunne turns to the gay, light
side of life, with gratifying results.
Playing opposite the titian-haired
star in the role of a happy - go -
lucky illustrator is Melvyn Douglas,
one of Hollywood’s most popular
actors. Others in the large cast are
!niomas Mitchell, Thurston Hall,
Rosalind Keith, Spring Byington and
Margaret McWade, one of the “pixi
lated sisters in “Mr. Deeds Goes To
Town.”
In “Theodora Goes Wild,” Miss
Dunne is seen as a small town “no
body” who becomes famous as the
author of sophisticated novels. When
she falls in love with Douglas, whose
estranged wife refuses to give him
a divorce, she takes a page from
her own novel and launches a cam
paign of wildescapades to gain her
objective.
Richard Boleslawski diiected
“Theodora Goes Wild” from a screen

in selecting a story back-grcund,
whipping a plot into space, and ori

them on the picture were six writ

Six months were required to plot
the original basis for the picture
and turn this material into a stage
act of an hour and a half’s length.
Two months were then spent in re
hearsing this stage act and present
ing it for four shows a day, seven
days a week for week engagement;
in five cities extending from Chi
cago to San Francisco. This served
as a test for the comedy material
and resulted in a tabulation of more
