Malone was hostess to two tables of bridge, those present being members of her club and two special guests, Mrs. S. A. Jones and Miss Mary Harris. Winner of club high score was Mrs. E. M. Hedgepeth, while Mrs. S. A. Jones was awarded visitor’s prize. J. Edwards on South Main street. Rev. B. F. Boone, oi | Zebulon, N. C., . brother-in-law of the bride, officiated at the ceremony. The vows were spoken before an improvised altar in front of the Living room windows. Before a background of evergreens and ferns, tall floor baskets of white snapdragons were flanked by two seven-branched cathedral candel abrae. The home was decorated with arrangements of snapdragons and chrysanthemums. The bride, who was unattend ed, wore a costume suit of mist blue. Her accessories were of (black and she wore a corsage of Briarcliff roses and valley lilies. Mis. Williams, who is an alum na of Louisburg college, is a po pular resident of this city, while the groom, who is the son of Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Williams ,of Fair mont, is connected with the Rox boro branch of the Carolina Pow er and Light company. After a brief wedding trip, Mr. and Mrs. Williams will be at home in Rox boro. o Bride-Elect Feted Thursday Evening As a pre-nuptial courtesy to Miss Nell Edwards, bride of the week, Miss Gladys Lawson en tertained at her home on the Durham road Thursday evening. Guests were received at 8 o’- clock and invited to the living room where four tables were plac ed for games of court whist. High score was won by Mrs. Benjamin F. Boone, of Zebulon, sister of the honoree, who gave a reception last week at her Zebulon residence for Miss Ed wards, and at which Miss Law son and Mrs. Numa Edwards, of this city, were present. Low score was won by Mrs. Burley Day, but both Mrs. Boone and Mrs. Day gave their prizes to the honoree of the evening. Also presented to Miss Ed wards, as gifts from the hostess, were a shoulder corsage and cry stal in her wedding pattern. For refreshments a salad cour se with Russian tea was served by the hostess, who was assisted by Mrs. Mattie Lawson and Miss Foy Lawson. Decorations in the home were tasteful arrangements of potted plants. o Book Program To Be Given By Club The February meeting of the Roxboro Woman’s club will be held Monday afternoon at 3 o’- clock at the Community house, Chub Lake street, according to announcement from the club president, Mrs. R. C. Hall, whio reports that a special program on “Books” will be presented. For many years the Woman’s club in this city has been espec ially interested in supporting the local library now located in the Community house and in contin uance of this support each mem ber will be requested to bring at least one book to the club Mon day. Such volumes as are receiv ed will be added to the library collection. Mrs. Hall said today that des pite asiatance from the State Lib rary commission, many more books are needed at the local lib rary and that contributions of well-written and worthwhile books will be greatly appreciat ed. o LAND POSTED SIGNS AT THt TIMES OFFICE PERSON COUNTY TIMES ROXBORO, N. Both Mliss Harris and her . fiance are well known and popu lar residents of Person county. o Literary Club Has Regular Session Here Thursday On Thursday evening Mrs. Wheeler Newell was hostess to the Thursday Literary club at her home on South Main street. Guests were received at 6 o’clock and were invited to the dining room for dinner, where Valentine decorations were effectively used to create a festive atmosphere. Program for the evening was' “Recent Books” and the first paper was presented by Mrs. Ro bah F. Baynes, who reviewed, “Lincoln Talks,” a volume deal ing with the Civil War president’s own writings ami opinions. Miss Hall, who is in her early twenties, commutes between New York and Hollywood. She has a passion for smart clothes, hats and accessories and a penchant for “21”, New York’s super nightspot. She had rather be considered a glamour girl than a successful writer and says her se cret ambition was realized when Bradshaw Crandell asked her to pose for him. Miss Hall’s constant companion is her wire-haired ter rier, Kathleen Scarlett, better known as Kate, about whom there are fab ulous stories. Kate flies across the continent with her mistress and is otherwise no mere dog. Harris’, “Purslane”, a novel of North Carolina rural life. Mem bers of the club found both re views entertaining but were es pecially interested in “Purslane” because of its Tar Heel theme. Following the reviews, a musi cal program was presented by Mesdames George Walker, Wheel er Newell and E. E. Bradsher. Mrs. Roy Cribb Thursday Hostess To Study Club With Mrs. Roy Cribb as hostess the regular meeting of the Study club was held Thursday after. noon at 3 o’clock at Hotel Rox , boro. Presiding officer for the afternoon was Mrs. R. M. Spen cer, vice-president, and the roll call was answered by “Ideas in Decoration”, a theme connected with the program on “Interior Decoration.” First paper of the afternoon was presented by Mrs. T. B. Brooks, who discussed the “Art 1 of Creating Delightful Homes”, while the second paper, on “Fur niture and Arrangements”, was j gven by Mrs. L. H. Umstead. j Dinner was served at 5 o’clock in the hotel dining room, where decorations of red and green were used. Special guest was Mrs. James Newman. • o Demonstration Club Schedule I Weather and road conditions permitting, the following sche dule will be carried out next week: Tuesday, Feb. 6 - 2:30 p. m. Mt. Tirzah club will meet with Mrs. A. E. Fogleman. Wednesday, Feb. 7- 2:30 p. m. Chub Lake group with Mrs. B. E. Clayton.
