John Crowe, of the U. S. S.
“New Ylcrk”, and Homer Easter,
of the same ship, are visiting Mr.
Crowe’s sister, Mrs. Ray John
son, of this city. Mr. Crowe, of
Chase City, Via., and Mr. Easter,
of Hollis, Okla., will return to
the ship, now stationed at Nor
folk, Va., toy Tuesday of this
week. The young men have re
cently completed a naval training
course and have seen service in
Cuba and Porto Rico.

A folk dance, which the stud
ents learned at 4-H camp last

Annual Health
Report Issued
The annual reptort of the Or
ange - Person . Chatham District
Health department for 1939 has
just been released by the asso
ciation and copies are now avail
able at the Health office in Rox
boro.
The report shows that heart
diseases caused more deaths in
Person County during 1939 than
any other disease, 23 being the
total number.
Cerebral hemorrhage and ap
oplexy claimed 16 as did pneu
monia. Influenza caused two
deaths during the year.

In his new position, Smith has charge of the planning and dir
ection of sales promotion for Pepsi-Cola in the Negro market, mak
