% RIDGECREST . . . ramblings The Day of Prayer for home and foreign missions was observ ed Tuesday of last week at the home of Mrs. J. N. Binford. Mrs. W. M. Pate, president, presided. Mrs. Cecil M. Perry led the devo tion using the Lord’s Prayer as her subject. The program was given by Mrs. Leonard Biddix, Mrs. bred Stim son, Mrs. R. L. May, Miss Carrie Hardin, Mrs. Elbert Hardin, and Mrs. Ruby Burleson. Mrs. S. C. Gill gave the Jioyal Service program. Others present were: Mrs. High C Moore, Mrs. Norma Moore, and Mrs. V\ illard K. Weeks. A covered dish luncheon pro vided by those in attendance was enjoyed' at the noon hour. A lib eral offering was made for home and foreign missions. Mrs. Thomas J. M. Burnett re ceived a telegram Sunday from her husband, Dr. Burnett, saying he had been realeased from duties in a Naval hospital in Japan and would soon be on his way to the States. He will probably reach home by the last of this week. Dr. Burnett has been away for about two years most of which was spent in a Memphis naval hospital from which he went to another hospital near Tokyo. Dr. and Mrs. Paul Nolan, Lawn dale, Mr. and Mrs. A. V. Nolan, Shelby, were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Willard K. Weeks Sun day evening. Mrs. George Allred and daugh ter, Barbara, visited Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Allred, Travellers Rest, and Mr. and Mrs. Nick Allred, Greenville, S. C., during the week end. Carol Lawton, Greenville, S. C., spent the week end with Edna Smith. Mrs. Gertrude Hammond was called to the bedside of her crit ically ill mother in Knoxville, Tenn., Thursday night. Mrs. Pinckney R. Holman visit ed her daughter, Mrs. Justin Me Sweeney, and family in Black Mountain Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Mac Burnett spent Sunday in Asheville with relatives. The Rev. Cecil M. Perry and little daughter, Ann Carr, made a trip to Silver Springs, Ocala, and Lakeland, Fla., last week. Ann Carr reported a pleasant exper ience in the Silver Springs visit being thrilled with what she saw. Mr. and Mrs. Perry Morgan left Monday for Durham where they visited their son and his wife, Mr. and Mis. James P. Morgan. They made the trip with Repre sentative Roy A. Taylor and Sen ator Weaver in Mr. Taylor’s ear as these two public servants re turned to Raleigh for the Monday session of the legislature. Guests of Miss Mary Speight over the week end were Mr. and Mrs. Francis Murdoch of Salis bury. Mr. and Mrs. W. Dean Stepp were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Stepp Sunday even ing. Visiting Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Stiles at Candler Sunday after noon, were Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Stiles of Spruce Pine, and Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Stepp, Black Mountain highway. Mr. and Mrs. Hubert M. Craig and little daughter, Nancy, and her friend, Barbara Sztykiel, a member of a displaced family from Poland, all of Lincolnton, spent the week end at the Craig summer cottage on Royal Gorge road. Mr. and Mrs. Horace Edwards and son “B”, Lincolnton, were week end guests of Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Craig at their cottage on Royal Gorge road. Many prayer meetings will be held in tne community next week in preparation for the evangelistic meeting at the church here March 25 to April 1. The Rev. Cecil M. Perry, pastor of the local congre gation, will preach during the re vival. A message received from the Rev. and Mrs. Deaver M. Lawton now in San Francisco, Calif., stat ed that little Danny was ill in that city with measles and their sailing to Bangkok has been de layed to about March 20. A message from the Rev. lorn E. Walters, a former pastor of the Ridgecrest church and now pastor of the church at I’arkton, N. C., states he has resigned the work there to become general missionary in the New South Riv er Association of more than 60 churches with a combined mem bership in excess of 10,000 with general headquarters in Fayette ville.
