Why, nobody, of course^ Everyone thought it' was fine. Stone Mountain has a grand piano too, and that goes a long way in good singing. The Broad River choir was all present ex cept the pianist, Mrs. Dotson, who is ill. A number of old friends were there whom the Rev. Dotson had not seen for several years, including Mr. and Mrs. Walker Elliott, Mr. and Mrs. Emil (Dock) Kirstein, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Morris ami family, and others. Special invitation was sent Clear Branch church to come down and sing with us in our future sing ings. >ome or tne itroad Kivor boys 1110111(110(1 Brothers Luther Led better, Paul Dotson, Willie Hud Kins, Press Owenby, Roy Connor, and perhaps other are going some time this week to Henderson county (Edneyville) to see some church benches. The Rev. Dotson is ulso inquiring about some in Haywood county where he is work ing this week. Let’s hope some thing good turns up. Broad River church plans to have an Easter "Sunrise Sendee” this year. Many people who have attended these services say it is well worth the little sacrifice one would make to get up a little earl ier on Easter morning and drive to the church. It is hoped that every reader of this column will make it a point to attend a sun rise service somewhere. This ser vice should begin about the time day begins to break, or about (> a. m., says the Rav. Dotson who hasn’t missed one in several years. The Rev. Dotson says thanks again to Ma Sarah for the good dinner last Sunday. “UNCLE JACK” CORDELL From Page 1, this Sec. on Hazel Creek in the Great Smokies. He worked four years for Harry Martin, step-son of Gov. and Mrs. Zeh Vance. The biggest job here was to help Harry keep his alcoholic beverages hidden from his step-mother. The night that this reporter was born our Grandsire Pittman and older brothers spent the night with Jack and Gabe at their home on the Hurricane Branch, where grew the best fruit that we have ever tasted. Jack was always a great story teller. We remember peeling tan bark with him when we were young, he always took the upper side of the log so he could sit on the hillside as he worked. When he would sit back and say "One time—” we would stop our spudd ing and listen, for we knew an interesting yarn was forthcoming. “Uncle Jack” as he is affect ionately known now, keeps a little store on the North Fork road. He doesn’t know the word “stranger”, and visitors are always welcome. Anyone wishing to meet a real mountaineer, who can tell tall tales of the old days, are urged to come out into our hills and spend a pleasant hour with Jack. ATTEND LUNCHEON The Rev. and Mrs. Thad McDon alld attended a luncheon meeting in Concord, Monday, March 12, at the third annual Houston preach ing mission at Central church in Concord. This event is made poss ible through the generosity of Dr. and Mrs. W. C. Houston. Bi-hop Richard C. Raines, resident of the Indianapolis area, was speaker at the luncheon.
