Ronnie Watkins Has Party On Birthday A large birthday cake uccopued with a horse and cowooy repre senting Hopalong Cassidy high lighted the fifth birthday Pa.r*LJ’ of Ronnie Watkins, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Uatkins, Wednes day afternoon, April 1, at the.r home on Oakland drive. Games in keeping with the occasion were played. Each little guest received a cowboy coloring book as a favor. Ice cream and cup cakes were served to Cindy Edwards, Toni Rowland, Stephen Earley, Cecelia Wyrick, Tommy Sobol, Toni Ed wards, Woody Sobol, Rick Crowder, Patty Willis, Rrenda Glenn, Vir ginia Lora Brandon, Ronnie Brand on, Billy White, Joan Aldrich, Sandy Wilson, Terry Ledbetter, Carol' Watkins, Irene Ledbetter, and the honoree. Others present were Mrs. W. W. Earlev, Mrs. Frank Ledbetter, Mrs. Tommy Edwards, Mrs. Henry Aldrich, Mrs. Robert Reese, and Mrs. Lawrence Brandon. Johnny Carson was unable to attend but sent a gift. POET’S CORNER EARLY SPRING IN THE BLUE RIDGE Clusters of wdiite lovliness Quite tipsy—spread for all to see Against the blue of sky and distant hills. The shad-bush bids us come from winter fires To early daffodils. Oh, blue spring mists of hills dark with the promise of rain! Oh, showers of white shad petals falling on yellow daffodils! Mrs. W alker is in very poor health. Lonnie Mundy, small son of Mr. and Mrs. Chrisley Mundy, climbed up to the clothes ringer, turned it on and got his arm caught in it. Chrisley and Ruby found him dangling there yelling for help. Fortunately there were no bones broken, but Lonnie has some severe bruises and lacarations. Cottage prayer meeting will be at the home of Mrs. W. T. Shook this Thursday night. We offer deepest sympathy to the bereaved family of T. J. Mar rett. Welcome visitors at Mountain View church services Sunday morn ing were: Mr. and Mrs. Fred Burnett and Mrs. Della Hurst of Ridgecrest, and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Strickland of Swannanoa. Eight young folks are to_ be baptized into the Mountain View church and six are coming by letter, as a result of the revival. MISS MILLER IS ENGAGED TO JOSEPH TODD Miss Kathleen Miller of Salis bury, daughter of Mi', and Mrs. W. T. Miller of Black Mountain, is engaged to Joseph \’. Todd Jr., of Salisbury, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph N. Todd of Washington, D. C. The wedding will take place in August at the Black Mountain Baptist church. North Carolina’s farm popula tion gained 48,000 in the last two years. The 1950 census shows 1,471,048, or more than a third of the population, living on farms of three acres or more.
