Reflections By Jack Greenwood Dashing through the “dough . . . in a wild-horse sort of way ’Round and ’round we go . . . “griping as we pay; Bills and belles and bawls ... make things tough and tight, What nerve it takes to work all month . . . and be broke pay day night. Where does our money go . . . what makes it slide so slick? It goes only half as far . . or gets there twice as quick. “Buck” won’t do for us now . . . as much as it once did, ’Cause we won’t do as much for it . . . and that’s why it has slid. —R— Through the mail a few days ago. unsigned came a message addressed to "Green Jackwood.” Taking for granted the “un signed" gentleman had the right address on the envelope. I was surprised at the message. Said message informed me of sev eral things, and including insults which 1 chose to ignore. The gist of it is I am supposed to "psy up or shut up.” I can’t figure out who would send such a message through the U. S. mail and pay the postage, unless it is the **m* fellow who sent his wife arouna to collect the dime which he had been fined the night before at the Lions Club. That’s partly a joke, son. She really didn't come to the office but collected on the steps of the Baptist church the night of the Good Friday service. The trouble is 1 had already turned the cents in to Lions Treasurer Gary Carson and had to pay the hard cash out of my own pocket. Former Black Mountain High school students are in the news this week. From West Lafayette, Ind., comes word that Charles Darwin Thomas has been initiat ed into Sigma Nu fraternity. Charles is a freshman in the school of mechanical engineering at Purdue. At Appalachian State Teachers college Mary Jo Atkins is among those students who have achieved academic distinction for the winter quarter. Mary Jo, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cline Atkins of Black Mountain, was one of those students who made an average of “B” with no grades below “C*. Beautifully illustrated in four colors. What well known Black Moun tain sailor, who ha- spent many days sailing the deep blue sea, went for a boat ride on his day off and sent out ar, tf.O.S. that his engine room was flooded and his rudder jammed? At last re port he was still looking for the motor to his boat. If you're fishing in Lake Ager and pull in a nice bass with a good sized bulge, stomach that is, let me know right away. But be careful and don’t jar the fish —you might start the motor. —Turn to Page 6. thi- Sec. Martins Entertained On 15th Anniversary Dr. and Mr*.
