Improvements Being Rushed At Junaluska Extensive improvements in the grounds and facilities at Lake Junaluska, N. C., southeastern summer headquarters of the Meth odist Church, are being rushed to completion by the June 1 open ing date. Edwin L. Jones of Charlotte, president of the church assembly’s board of trustees, said the current improvements climax a $600,000 development program launched in 1948. A new $30,000 administration building is the chief new landmark at the assembly. Built of native' cut stone, the one-story structure will house offices and serve as information headquarters for visitors and guests. A double-deck sightseeing boat, Cherokee II, has been purchased at a cost of $16,000 and launched at the lake. Eight miles of street paving, VIVERETTE MUSIC PUPILS PRESENTED IN RECITAL Mrs. Roger Viverette presented a group of music pupils in a re cital Friday night, May 30, at her studio on Church street. Death Claims Mrs. Briggs Mrs. Annie Mae Briggs, 62, of 8 Barker avenue, Swannanoa. a na tive of Leicester, died Wednesday, May 28, at 12:01 a m. at her home after a two months’ illness. She had resided at Swannanoa 16 years. Surviving are the husband, S. W. Briggs; two daughters, Mrs. Howard Banks and Mrs. Bill Blaine of Swannanoa; two sons, Jack of Black Mountain and Bernard K. Briggs, serving in the navy; the parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Randall of West Buncombe; four brothers, Leslie, Millard, Ernest and Paul Randall of Ashe ville; two sisters, Mrs. E. L. Peek of Elizabeth, N. J., and Mrs. C. C. Ballard of West Buncombe and six grandchildren. Funeral services were held Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in Swan nanoa Missionary Baptist church. Harrison Funeral Home, Black Mountain was in charge. The Rev. Charles Smith, the Rev. Charles Jolly and the Rev. J. N. Woodard officiated and bur ial was in Mountain View Memor ial Park, Black Mountain. —Heliotherapy is the treatment of disease by sun baths. BRIDE ELECT HONORED WITH BRIDAL SHOWER Miss Betty Rice was honored by Mrs. J. M. Goodman and Miss Betty Brandon with a bridal shower last Friday night at the Goodman home, Montreat road. Arrangements of pink and white roses were used to decorate. The same color scheme was also used in other decorations and refresh ments. it j Games carrying out the wed ding theme were played. After the opening of the gifts by the honored guest, refreshments were served to Mrs. T. M. Farr, Miss Barbara Reid, Miss Betty Reid, Miss Joan Hendren, Mrs. Charles Henderson, Marilyn Huntsinger, Mrs. Ray W. Cockrell, Mrs. Harry Morris, Mrs. Glen Wilson, and the hostesses.
