He came t(, perform His Father’s will; proclaim H i s Father’s mes sage and lay the foundation for His Fath er's Kingdom. The Master knew the weak lip ness of men— His disciples would be am! discouraged. As hardships and persecu km w they would cower t;,m and despair. As l,;ld hated Him so would ;ltl' His disciples. They going forth to war of Righteousness. They to battle sin in high low places; overcome opposition and contend jp.dduous spirit of com from within and from THINGS HAVE I UNTO ’HJ, that ye be offender’’—or to from falling away or de Cause. This lesson .yarning and encourage 1 days were ahead when would be anxious to nd kill. .Jesus wanted His disciples for the onslaught which they encounter. He outlined tions they would have iplt>s were facing a tiding life—every ounce force W'.jld be needed rage would be taxed But who wants an What football player win an easy victory? r wants to win an easy easy spiritual life is high integrity of a Christ demands the best life not the least and Die strength and daring the judgment and con ance of maturity; and ng experience which re long years of close with God. TO YOUR ADVANT I go away.” The death, 1I0T0 SHING And DEVELOPING live Craft Center 115 Broadway Mountain, N. C. DAY SERVICE Prints . . 06c each burial, resurrection and ascension of Christ was not understood by the disciples. Jesus had referred to these facts repeatedly but the deep significance had never been apprciated. At this time they are permitted to see more clearly the purpose and power of God. Jesus is going to leave them. They must face persecution and death alone. How tragic their plight—scattered, discouraged, forsaken, lonely and defeated. Their leader had died on a Roman cross between two thieves. His miracles and teach ings would soon be forgotten. How unpromising and hopeless the Kingdom of God seems to he on the brink. "I WILL SEND THE COM FORTER OR ADVOCATE UNTO YOU and He will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness and of judgment." Then the dis ciples were not to be deserted or left as orphans? Not for a mo ment did God expect to forsake those who loved and followed Him. Through His death on the cross for sin, He would use these ordi nary men to do extraordinary work. Greater works than the Master had done were to be done by ordinary men—men spirit-filled and divinely guided. Jesus said to His Apostles, "Re hold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.” Luke 24:49. Through the giving of the Advocate Jesus could walk, talk and work with all of His fol lowers across the world. Ry His death and ascension His disciples could do ‘‘greater works” than He had done. His personal presence and power would motivate, uphold and supplement each Christian personality. Men would become more han men—they would be God-men. THROUGH THE AID OF THE ADVOCATE it would be possible for the Followers of Christ to pro claim His Gospel unto the utter most part of the earth—all men and nations. His power would not be limited to local communities dominated by His physical pres ence but would extend across the world through Spirit-guided wit nesses. Through the Advocate the world would be convinced of sin, and of righteousness and of judg ment. This was the Master’s plan as He revealed and interpreted it unto His disciples. It is His plan for us today. He is saying, ‘‘Come, follow me!” It’s not an easy life, but who wants an easy life? Men want the thrill of achievement—they want victory. The way of the cross leads to Victory! Something to Think About: 1. Why is the Christian life so difficult? Would you make it easier if you could? 2. Am I a better Christian than when I first accepted Christ as my Saviouj? 3. What experience have I had with the "Holy Spirit”? 4. Does Christ continue to guide those who surrender to His lead ership? 5. Give examples of lives guided by the Spirit—past and present. —The number of sheep on Unit ed States farms on January 1 at 30.9 million was 3 per cent less than a year earlier and the small est since 1938.
