C., were here to spend a day or two at their home on Mon treat road, you may have noticed that he was growing a beard. And he didn't just forget to shave that morning. It is all part of the Bi-centennial cele bration for Halifax county and the commemoration of the sign STRICTLY PRIVATE! no see-through . . . no show-through with ** £ TWI-NIGHTER® VENETIAN BLINDS Flexalum Twi-Nighter blinds have exclusive shut-tight design that gives you this complete privacy. By that time the men of Halifax should have beards to tickle the heart—and chin— of ant miss. —R— With all the talk of politics the youngster was puzzled. He didn’t know just what was meant by all this talk of parties, and voting, and campaigning. There was only one way to find out, ask, and he did. “Mother,” he called, “am I a Republic or a Democratic? 1 mean am I a mule or a jackass ? On account of I’d rather be a mule than a jackass.” —R— After all is said and done, it’s usually the wife w ho has said it and the husband who has done it. —R— There may not be much to see I Choose from our wide selection of designs, a monument in marble or granite to perpet uate precious memo ries. These two sharpshooters led Haw Creek to the championship back in the day when the county was dom inated by Candler, Leicester and Biltmore. “E. Cook and J. Cook” were names that will long be re membered by county fans. Ernest was the long-shot artist who could hit from just about any place across the center line, but when you went out after him, Johnny, one of the first players I ever saw who could use either hand equally well is dribbling or shooting, would come weaving down the floor and school would be out. If you guarded him for a right handed shot, he’d go the other way. If you played it smart—you thought—and dived for his left hand, you’d find yourself looking silly and holding a bag full of snipes. Last fall Mr. and Mrs. J. Cook bought the Spanky Reese home and moved to Black Mountain from Haw Creek. —’There is one silk for every grain on an ear of corn. I Free Estimate!
